See www.st-stefanus.be

Bottle from Waitrose, East Cowes shared with McTapps. Simple belgian ale with a belgian yeast, bit of hops and butter. Slightly sweetish middle, yeasty dominance, bit of bread and cookies. Fine one with no special points to talk about. Well, the big carbo does not kill it - that is a plus.

330ml bottle from Tesco... something new to throw in with the big monthly shop. Pours clear golden amber, thick long-lasting white head. Aromas are Belgian yeast, hay, lemon. Taste is sweet, light lemon, too sweet though. Finish has a lingering spice, but not enough.

Blodn bodied and with heavy carbonation to make a bubbly yet pleasantly drinkable head. Aroma is typical Belgian, both in the noble hops (perhaps a bit more fresh grassy than the dusty ones often found in Belgian Ales from Belgian), malts (simple yet of good quality) an yeast (lively fruity and cheesy). Fresh enough, despite the somewhat unnecessary 7% abv. Soft start, but the bitterness towards the end makes up a bit. Overall still a bit forgettable, but that’s mostly because this is already so widely available and done well so often by the Belgian. Considering its a generic Van Steenberge-brewed blond ale... not too bad! :) (33cl bottle from Monoprix in Neuilly sur Seine)

Bottle from Tesco watching Germany Vs Argentina extra time. What a crushing disappointment the knock out phases of this tournament have been. Pours typical foggy ochre with a dense slim cap. Mad Belgian aroma mingling Prosecco and strawberries, vanilla ice cream peppered with cardamom and juniper, juicy gooseberry, Triple Sec and orange wine gum hop. Soft pillowed condition, mouth bursting with peppery juniper and gooseberry. Mellow, evocatively spiced finish with good balancing hop bitterness. Far too long since I’ve drank a beer like this. Beautiful.

330ml typical stubby Belgian dark glass bottle. From Waitrose. Soft, creamy, sweet and yeasty. Perfumed with honey and citric notes. It’s a pleasant drinking Belgian blonde. No surprises here. Nothing exceptionally good, nor exceptionally bad. You can feel the alcohol heat on the swallow. OK. Not a huge difference between this and some strong Euro (or international) lagers, though being unfiltered and warm fermented gives this more character and flavour.

Nice Belgian blonde ale that gets better with each sip. Dated as a cellar release for 7-2012, got on special for $4 per four pack. Very discounted and glad I loaded up with extra. Strong beer, but smooth tasting with great hops. Great beer for the summer.

Bottled in 2013/04, 33cL. Home. A clear golden orange beer with a large white creamy head. Thin bubbles. Fruity aroma (prune), herbs, spices, bread. Medium sugary sweet, refreshing bitter with an acid note. Medium body, pleasant silky texture, average carbonation, sweet finish with a warming note. Overall, a great silky/spicy/fruity belgian ale !
