See www.st-stefanus.be

330ml bottle from Tesco - Probably a bit of a hostile rater to this one, paid £3 a bottle from the same people who could give you a big bottle of Leffe for the same, so expected so much more from this. Bit of a gusher to start, clear yellow, massive white head. Nose had a bit of wheat in it, a touch of clove there too. Taste is relatively fine, it has a certain rustic quality, but other than that - unspectacular. Gimme a Duvel over this any day.

Pours orange gold with a medium white head. Aroma is earthy, citrus, floral, bread and yeast. Taste is sweet with some tartness, mostly sweet though. Medium bodied, smooth with good carbonation for a crisp finish.

Bottle. Poured a light golden colour, with a very large white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, straw, bread and tinned fruit. Soft fruit flavours, with some dough and light hop bitterness. Finish was balanced peal, esters, caramel and cereal.

Rated on 4-24-2013 (Corked & caged bottle - Cellar release 4-2012) The appearance of this beer is a large extremely fizzy white head that mostly diminished, transparent yellow body, fast rising carbonation, and no lacing. The aroma is yeasty, lightly malty, sweet, fruity, hint of sourness, and tart. The flavor is sweet, mildly spicy, fruity, yeasty, and candied sugar. The mouthfeel is spritzy and this beer is light-medium bodied. A quaffable beer, but the flavor was just okay for the style. A bit of a let down since this is one of my favorite styles.

Large bottle purchased at Surdyk’s consumed in Belgian glass. Aroma has an element of sweetness almost reminiscent of a saison. Good spice too. Well frothed...full finger of head. Plenty of candy sweetness in the taste but for the most part it falls a little short of the expectations built up by the aroma. Some alcohol bite at the end. Smooth mouthfeel with a slight oily texture. Overall I think it drinks well but it’s not quite amazing.

Big aged bottle from surdyks with commonmac. Bottle from September 2012. Gold with very thick lasting head. Fruity sweet nose. Spicy and very sweet taste. Flattish finish and some funky bitterness. Tasted like a cross of a saison, a Belgian, and some yeast bitter. Maybe a tiny bit of sourness. I liked it ,but it wasn’t perfect.

Bottle Pours clear blonde, ok yet fast fading white head . Smell is unintense, bit malty . Taste is surprisingly bitter , with the typical Vansteenberghe sweetness ( thnx to their ancient-way brewing methods ) good carbo , full mouthfeel . Bit of sugar at the end , but not too much at all . Nice, easy drinkable .

750ml bottle, dated 4/2013, drank at home. Pours clear gold, fluffy white head that recedes fairly quick. Nose of sweet cereal, bubblegum, vanilla, banana, white pepper, some light tang to the esters too. Tastes moderate sweet light cereal malt, hay, bubblegum, vanilla, light herbal bitter, slight hint of almost bretty tang, very dry finish. Medium-light body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, well-carbonated but quite prickly, not as fine as I’d like. Lingering ghost of brett with some more vanilla bubblegum yeasty notes. Interesting, I think the age on this has worked out pretty well.
