COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
See www.st-stefanus.be

33cl bottle from Waitrose, Wokingham. Relased 9-2013, so about 6 months old. A slightly hazy amber pour; aroma of Belgian yeast; smooth with some acid to start and then a soft caramel body; and a sweet, lingering finish. Very pleasant and the aging scale on the bottle is quite intreging - I must get another and keep it longer.

Bottle. Bought from Waitrose Sutton Coldfield. Golden with a small head. Slightly bitter with a lovely creamy taste. Medium body and left no taste. A good example of this style and a power to Waitrose for putting it on the shelves.

Bottled poured about 5 celsius, the label says it was released ’5-2013’: it’s about 11 months old. Aroma: Lots of bread and spicey fruitiness. Reminds me of christmas, grand marnier, and home made panetonne. A little bit of wine, vinegar, nail polish remover and stale pubs comes through too. Appearance: cloudy pale amber, fairly effervescent. Nice fluffy cream coloured head that lasts all the way down. Taste: Starts off with a strong bitterness that quickly diminishes to a sweet orange flavour supported by rich pastries, savoury notes and sweat. Other flavours to look out for are: proving bread, bread and butter pudding (spices and raisins), ginger bread, treacle, cinnamon, kiwi, a touch of pine. Palate: Amazing texture, like eating marshmallow: creamy and foamy, no residual stickiness. has a bit of a sharp kick to it the first few sips but that soon disappears. Overall: I started off not really enjoying it, it is a big beer, full of rich malt and yeast, and a high abv. But after settling down into it I really started to enjoy it. One for an early evening sat on a balcony with a few cigarettes and a good friend (not whilst trying to work at 11 pm). I’d say this is a perfect christmas beer. so reminiscent of luxurious times; the rich flavours certainly suit the dark winter months.

rauchbier (3634) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - MAR 11, 2014
Bottle, from Waitrose, Willerby. Hazy orange gold, big fluffy and sustained white pillows of foam. Pleasantly fruity in the nose with a heady yeastiness and hints of a peppery spiciness, some apple notes and a touch bready, in the mouth it has an initial spicy sweetness that becomes fruity and slightly citric before a flourish of bready yeast bitterness. Finish is bitter and sweetly yeasty with some spirity retronasal alcohol lingering.

jamestulloch (1580) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 8, 2014
Bottle from Waitrose. Hazy amber body with a thin off-white head. Lively carbonation. Light lacing marks. Aroma of maple syrup, spice and yeast. Flavour of wood, honey, corn flakes and warm spices. Thin body with an oily mouthfeel. Average fizz. The sweetness quickly becomes cloying.

Bottle not sure where from possibly Terre de Boissons, Calais but equally could be from Barry? 7th March 2014 Pours gold filmy white head, bit sweet none too exciting I’m afraid. Far too safe and unexciting, its fine but I was hoping for more. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Beertobealive (302) - Stavanger, NORWAY - MAR 6, 2014
Large foamy white head with light lilies flavors. Clear regular orange body. Taste displays smoky malts, a bit strange for a light beer. Some sweetness also but short in taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: Hazy light amber with 2 finger thick white head. Aroma: Corn, syrup, candied orange peel, biscuit and pepper. Taste: Medium sweet and sourness with low bitter. Palate: Thick grainy texture, light body, average/prickly carbonation, dry abrupt sweet, sour syrup, peppery biscuit, fruity finish. Comments: Ok and glass lace. It has the aroma and taste I associate with rice adjuncts.
