The 3MONTS beer : A wonderful return to nature, with its flavour of yesteryear, this is a beer that was drawn from the wooden metal-circled barrels to fill so many mugs in our Flanders bars! Its bitterness comes from our hop fields scattered throughout the region. Brewed by infusions, it is an old-fashioned rising beer made with strong and hearty Flemish hops. Fermented using top yeasts, like the barrel brewers of yore and clamped like bonderised barrels.

Poured from a 75cl bottle. The first pleasure was opening it just like a bottle of champagne by prising up the cork. Pours a light honey colour with thick creamy, foamy head and persistant carbonation. On the nose a slight hint of hops. The taste of hops and malt is very subtle and there is a bitterness and slight dryness in the aftertaste which is what I appreciated the most. At 8.5% alcohol I expected something more sweet, sticky and medicinal so I was pleasantly surprised and extremely appreciative for the kindness of the person who had offered me the bottle for sampling.

Dorata limpida, schiuma bianca mediamente fine di media persistenza. Aroma fruttato e floreale, leggero pepe e brettanomyces, qualche nota zuccherina e legnosa. Al palato corpo medio, ben carbonata, attacca lievemente acida per poi passare a note fruttate che lasciano strada ad una nota erbacea finale abbastanza lieve mista a frumento.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Intermarche, Givet. Clear golden with a white head. Fruity aroma, quite boozy taste. More a tripel than a bière de garde in my opinion but still decent enough.

Bottle from total wine. One of the stranger cappings I’ve seen, a massive metal staple indented down into a cork that muffin-tops out over the edges of the glass but is pushed 90+ % of the way into the bottle, making it impossible to remove except by corkscrew. Once I figured out that it wasn’t some crazy swingtop, though, it was pretty straightforward to open. Pours a clear gold (at least, the first glass does) with a just-off-white head that is large and rich but not all that long-lived.

Lovely, lovely nose right from the moment I pop the cork. Plenty of pepper and hay initially from the bottle, but once in my glass I get this fantastic aroma of orchard fruit with a vanilla backing. Some banana esters, but relatively subtle.

Alcohol is forward in flavor, but that’s probably just as well because otherwise this one would be tempting to quaff. A little bit of fruity sweetness up front, pepper and yeast in the middle, drier through the close. Seriously tasty stuff! Abundantly carbonated throughout with heat from the alcohol and bite from the carbonation.

In my opinion is this a really good beer, quite different both from the Belgian ales and from the anything brewed in the US. It’s vastly under-rated on the site, and deserves far more credit than it receives.

tl;dr summary: Fascinating biere de garde is a must-try if you can find it.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2016 Pours a clear yellow. Great balance at the nose of citric and fruity. Has a banana and caramel taste. The sweet is a little more prominent, but the hops and the malts are well balanced. Is the second time I taste from this "brasserie" and they are both well carbonated.

Nice enough at first. It as it got warmer it tasted of alcohol and corn. I’m happy I finally found a small bottle of this.

Pale yellow color with thin foam layer. Yeasty Belgian smell. The taste is super fine carbonated, very yeasty and boozy and reminds me of a Belgian tripel. The aftertaste is dry and belgian.

Golden color with big white head. Floral aroma, bananas, spicy yeasts, grainy. Taste is similar, carbonation is high. Nice if you like Belgian Blondes, I don’t think it stands out.

Bottle - clear pale yellow with thick white head which stays foamy to the end. Heavy carbonation - floral aroma. Slight ting on tongue and in mouth. Refreshing taste.
