COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The 3MONTS beer : A wonderful return to nature, with its flavour of yesteryear, this is a beer that was drawn from the wooden metal-circled barrels to fill so many mugs in our Flanders bars! Its bitterness comes from our hop fields scattered throughout the region. Brewed by infusions, it is an old-fashioned rising beer made with strong and hearty Flemish hops. Fermented using top yeasts, like the barrel brewers of yore and clamped like bonderised barrels.

This is a 3 Monts grande reserve, 8.3% ABV. Spicey hop aroma, bright yellow golden color with a big rocky white head. Juicy malt and spicey hop flavors. Surprisingly light on the palate, but with full and complex flavors. Definitely not belgian in character, and much hoppier than expected for a biere-de-garde. Rather, it doesn’t claim to be a biere-de-garde, but a hoppy "special ale." Delicious.

Excellent, i recommand it. PS: Par contre l’embout en métal qui bloque le bouchon de liège, c’est plus casse-pieds qu’autre chose.

Bottle (750 ml). Split 3-ways with family. Extra from Whatup14, thanks David!

Appearance: Clear golden with a small off-white head and little lacing.

Aroma: Quite yeasty with some fruits, perfume notes, grains, a touch of alcohol and light herbal presence.

Taste: Yeasty again, some fruits action, good malt backbone, hints of alcohol and herbal notes. Light bitterness.

Palate: Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Moderately dry finish.

Overall: Fairly easy to drink for the abv. Not the tastiest beer, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless.

0,75 l bottle, best before 27/3/2015. Crystal clear, pale golden yellow with a big, foamy, stable, white head. Nice citrusy aroma with hints of fermented white grapes. Refreshing taste of lemon, fermented white grapes and yeast with hints of vanilla and honey in the background. I even get some bananas after the beer warmed up. Slightly alcoholic and warming aftertaste with a light bitterness as in a Belgian tripel. Medium body with a mouthfeel that begins almost fizzy and ends creamy. Average carbonation. Overall a very refreshing and well balanced beer. How good must that be in the summer!

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Clear golden color with a lot of carbonation that gives it a tall white head. Not a fan of the aroma. Crisp flavor and a good smooth finish. I taste a light honey flavor near the end.

Poured from 750mL bottle. Clear pale yellow with white head. Aroma of toasted malt, corn and peanut. Flavour more or less same.

Bottle. Golden yellow pour, mostly clear with a frothy white head, good lacing. Aroma is bready with some light citrus, smells like a tame Belgian tripel. Flavour is somewhat bready, some yeast and a touch of citrus zest. Not a lot going on, but nicely balanced and a good flavour.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 16D). Bottle 75 cl - Batch L148 31468. AROMA: sweet malty and grainy aromas. notes of a woodsy and musty character are present. low to none esters and hop aromas. APPEARANCE: golden color and translucent. below average white head with medium retention. TASTE: sweet malty background with no esters discernible. woodsy barrell notes. low bitterness with a dry finish. no hop flavours. PALATE: medium body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: a nice example of a traditional biere de garde.

One of the most famous and classic bières de garde, with creamy, coarse, off-white head and pure golden colour, clear at first but hazy with deposit as expected, calm fizz. Aroma has something sweaty which at first disturbed me a bit, luckily it fades away after a while to reveal impressions of unripe peach, sour cream, apple juice, juniper berries, white bread, baker’s yeast, straw, gin, cooked potato and iron. Sweetish, rather delicate onset, apple, peach and pineapple, hint of iron but not really disturbing, soft mouthfeel, honeyish malt sweetness, smooth, with a finish of grassy hop bitterishness and wodka-like, warming alcohol, not very well hidden but not really disturbing either. In all, a pleasant beer and a fine introduction to the style.
