2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: MAY 19, 2010 Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (husks, toasted grain), lightly hoppy (herbs, flowers), lightly to moderately yeasty (basement/cement), with a note of DMS. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, husky. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Yeah, you know, I’m just not that fond of this one anymore. The reality is that it’s very husky in the malt department, and the wet cement and DMS notes are unattractive. Total honesty? It’s not too dissimilar to a ho-hum Euro strong lager. Meh.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 1, 2004 Deep orange, darker than expected, murky. Light white head. Big off-dry aroma comes out musty. It’s fruitier than most bière de garde with this dried mango, orange and peach flavour profile. Yet it’s just as rustic with this old cellar counterpart, lots of fluffy mustiness in there, notes of ashes, cask wood, uncleaned fireplace, hay… Nice range. Dry dusty palate, never very sweet, yet fruity. Spicy, feeling green (chive). It has a slight lactic bite to it mysteriously. Notes of bubblegum, smoke, cement. I guess what I like the most is how the yeast planes over the rest of the flavours. Big carbonation, medium body. Good, but no cigar.. and I expected one. Cheers TAR!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottle, 2009 vintage) Golden colour with foamy, off-white head. Lots of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Fruity, malty nose with apricots, orange, honey, flowers (jasmine, carnation) and a touch of yeast. Fruity, malty taste with notes of bread, honey, orange, apricots and a gentle spicy/floral bitterness in the finish. Medium body, mainly dry, but with some sweetness coming through towards the end. Well balanced and tasty. Excellent example of the style. Very nice.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: AUG 20, 2006 Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc, mds and tupalev, blankboy’s bottle. Slightly hazy amber with a huge fluffy white head. Dry aroma, sharply spicy/yeasty, some generic sweetish grain - interesting, not as subtle as I’d expect from a BdG, but perhaps that’s the "sur lees." Taste is sweet, only slightly spicy, mildly fruity - I know this is supposed to be subtle and elegant, but all I wrote was "ehh". Average everything - body, carbonation, maybe a bit of floral character, it finishes incredibly quickly - just didn’t do too much for me - give me more yeast, or spice, or something - this isn’t too far off a generic Québec golden ale.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc, mds & tupalev -- my bottle. Vintage 2006. Pours a hazy light orange with a large fluffy white head. Dissapointing, dry, grainy and yeasty aroma -- doesn’t do much for me at all. Flavour is sweet and grainy with some hint of spices and fruit -- pretty boring really. Medium bodied, quite carbonated. It’s not bad, it’s just too bland and generic to stand out or to want to have again.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
My #300 rating so I figured why not do another country. Reddish amber hue with large creamy head and excellent lacing, medium-bodied. Very fruity and woody nose, vinous in style. Hints of toasted malt, dough and spices. Alcohol becomes more pronounced as it warms. Acidic and bitter initial taste, more balanced flavor on finish. Dry and fizzy mouthfeel with a slight metallic and alcohol presence on finish. Very well made beer from a place normally associated with wine. Recommended late summer evening brew.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Partly cloudy dark blonde body with a large slowly diminishing white head. Aroma of cotton candy. Very sweet beer with bready malts and bland yeast. Somewhat saved by some crisp kind-of-noble hops. Drinkable but very simple sweet-fix like so many others. Bière SameOld SameOld.

Bottle at a tasting. Thanks Oren. As "3 Monts Grande Réserve". 8.3%. Slightly hazy deep golden to amber color with a big white head. Aroma of fruity esters, some malt, honey hints, a bit of alcohol and some spicy hops notes. Sweetish flavor with a bit of caramel, fruits, a bit of alcohol and a drier finish. Medium-bodied.
