COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Amber beer (8 % alc. / vol.) refermented in the bottle. A speciality beer brewed over lees in winter using the first malt and hops from the last harvest. Roasted malts give it its characteristic amber hue. Obtained by top fermentation, the "Biere Nouvelle" is characterised by fruity flavours and a good bite. Biere Nouvelle must be served with care (leaving behind the fine yeast sediment) at about 10°C. Available from February while stocks last in 750 ml bottles corked and stamped

I had this beer many years ago at one time when I was only giving ratings to the beers but was too lazy and stupid to write down my thoughts. I will update this as soon as I get my hands on this beer again.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2006 Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc, mds and tupalev, blankboy’s bottle. Slightly hazy amber with a huge fluffy white head. Dry aroma, sharply spicy/yeasty, some generic sweetish grain - interesting, not as subtle as I’d expect from a BdG, but perhaps that’s the "sur lees." Taste is sweet, only slightly spicy, mildly fruity - I know this is supposed to be subtle and elegant, but all I wrote was "ehh". Average everything - body, carbonation, maybe a bit of floral character, it finishes incredibly quickly - just didn’t do too much for me - give me more yeast, or spice, or something - this isn’t too far off a generic Québec golden ale.

Bottle shared with the regular crew plus MDS at Greg’s, Blankboy’s bottle. Dark yellow, foamy medium white head. Weird yeasty aroma, dry. Taste: light malt, kind of flavourful actually, well carbonated. I liked the malt taste, but the odd dry sourness really detracted. Not bad - refreshing and simple and just a little off.

Bottle, 75 cl. Clear golden. Effervescent. Was expecting more body, harsh and metallic. I did not enjoy this beer.

A real farmhouse. Horseblanket aroma with beige head. Tasty and drinkable biere de garde. Grassy, grainy, sweet start and bitter but balanced finish. Understated carbonation. Not the best but still a good example of the style, and a superior French effort.

2009 edition. Big white fluffy head that lingers. Much of artificial banana esthers with tropical fruits and honey. Taste is a blend between a south german wheat beer with the typical wheat caractair and a frensh saison with it’s earthiness. The body is rather big but suits this beer. One of the best french beers I’ve tried but a bit from perfect.

750 ml corked and caged (kinda) bottle poured a clear goldenamber with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of cookie, fruitiness, yeast, light spice and light fruittiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of cookie, carmel, yeast, light fruittiness and light spice with a crisp lightly fruity finish.

Bottle, vintage 2010. Clear golden with a medium, fluffy white head. Aroma of fruit, yeast, spices and some floral notes. The same in the taste, also some white bread. Dry and drinkable, better with age?

750ml gradually poured into a tulip glass... Nice golden colour to the body, with some haze and a rich foamy white head. Noble hops on the nose. Some fruitiness, some herbal notes, and a bit of toffee. The taste is fairly yeasty, with a moderate hop punch, followed by a bit of sweetness, some apple fruitiness, and quite a pronounced alcohol taste. Some bitterness in the after-taste. Medium-bodied. Quite highly carbonated, and quite boozy too. Not too pleasant. Judging from the one bottle I had the drinkability is pretty low. This beer will surely warm you up and inspire some hearty conversation, though!

Aroma: yeast, grass, straw, corn, bread, hay, earthy hops, spices, banana, citrus, alcohol. Appearance: golden colour, medium white head. Flavour: yeast, alcohol, grass, straw, citrus, hay, herbs, wheat. Mouthfeel: incredibly carbonated. Total: Good beer, but nothing that excites me.
