Bottle from Alko Arkadia, bought in October 2013.
A bit hazy dark golden with a white head. Aroma and taste of malt, orange, warming alcohol, some dried fruit and notes of nuts. Rather sweet. Drinkable but not that exciting.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Batch #468-9. Clear deep amber color small off-white head. Fruity, a bit woody, ryeish aroma. Medium-bodied, kind of flattish mouthfeel. Thinnish front. Dryish woody hoppyness, simple fruity backbone. Short fruity finish. Lingering bitterness. Quite hollow and simple. Disappointing.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle (Alko Arkadia, Finland)
Pours a nice orange, and a lovely large tight off-white head. Pleasant sweetish tropical fruit aroma. Nice aged woody malts in the retronasals, but some tropical fruits too. First taste, I was giving tihs 8 for taste. For an 8% beer, it’s remarkably light, the carbonation is very pleasantly crisp. Coconut rice pudding in the long taste. Quite a mashy malty finish. Pleasantly attenuated from the carbonation, but the sweet starchy body says it could attenuate more and mellow.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pale brown, very modest head, cloudy. Fruity and citric, caramel, alcohol come through strongly. Medium sweetness in the beginning, medium bitterness towards the end. A bit harsh, not too balanced, but most barley wines tend to be like that.

[Thanks to rosenbergh]. Bottled. Brown colour with an off-white head with good lasting and nice lacing. Aroma has notes of malts, caramel and slightly spices. Flavor is sweet, caramel and marzipan traces; alcohol is present in an uncompensated way. The final is slightly sweet and moderate bittery.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
8% about 5 euro from Alko In Helsinki. A bit low in ABV for a US style barley wine which would usually be over 10% I think. A beautiful golden amber color with a light beige head. Very hoppy! Lots of floral & citrus notes, a c-hop aroma over a sweet caramel malt base. The taste is excellent, well balanced sweetness overlain with fantastic hoppiness. Really good stuff, I am drinking it at almost room temperature as no hotels in Northern Europe seem to have rooms with fridges & it is still delicious. It reminds me more of an IPA rather than a barley wine, I’d love to try more of Stadin Panimo’s beers.
