Murky brown beer with a light mocha head. Aroma of peach. Taste of liquorice, plum, date, pine, mämmi, yeast, sweetness, a bit of sourness. Quite good but not my cup of wine.

Kaatuu lasiin tummanruskeana ja sameana, vaahtoa ei käytännössä ole, mutta reunus kuitenkin jää. Haju on kypsän luumuinen ja rusinainen, lakritsainen, marjainen ja hennon kuivatun hedelmäinen. Maku on vahvan rusinainen, kuivatun hedelmäinen (luumua ainakin, myös muuta), lakritsinen, multainen ja marjainen (sekä marjapensainen että jotain tummaa marjaa). Suutuntuma on täyteläinen ja yllättävänkin katkera (panosta kun on pari vuotta aikaa) edelleen. Hieman kulmikas kuitenkin. Kokonaisuutena maistuva kotimainen barley wine, jota vaivaa kulmikkuus, joka hitusen laskee nautintoa eikä näin nouse tyylinsä parhaiden tasolle.

Dark brown colour with light tan head. Dark malt, sweet brown sugar and alcohol in aroma, Rye malt (mämmi), sweet brown sugar and alcohol in flavour. Warming. It’s not good, it’s not bad.

9%. Redish brown body, offwhite head. Aroma of alcohol, raisins, cookie dough. Flavour is very spicy alcoholic mämmi. Bitter orange and chocolate. Warmth. A lot. I just don’t like a lot

2010 bottle from Tiong. Dark mahogany with no head at all. Reminds me of a delicious old port more than anything else - some caramelized brown sugar, rye, prune, raisin, dark currants and some vanilla and rum. Low carbonation, sweet, moderate body, alcohol still packs a bit of a punch - just wish it was a little richer; if you enjoy port you’ll like this if not then try it anyways.

ChrisOs Marvellous Pre GBBF Mega Tasting. Hazy red brown beer. Small pale tan head. Light dry palate. Nice woody bourbon flavours but it’s not a barrel aged beer! Semi dry finish. Still tasting bourbon and a little fruit!

Smell of malty rye bread and mämmi. Very dark colour with brown head. Very sweet and slightly bitter. Aroma of sugar, syrup, rye bread and malts. Aftertaste of sugar. Viscous, oily, very flat carbon.

Bottle 330ml. @ chriso s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2012.

ABV: 9.0%. Clear medium to dark red brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, rye, wood. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light moderate bitter with a long duration, wood, roasted, bread, rye, fruit cake - bread. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120804]

Bottle at Chriso’s 2012 Pre-GBBF Shindig, London. Pours light hazy, amber-brown with a light, white foam. Hugely sweet nose, raisins, tangy wood. Big sweet flavor, more raisins, also prunes, brown sugar, mild vinous wood notes. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sugary sweet finish, more brown sugar, prunes, raisins, faint wood. Exceptional. Wonderful depth and nuance.

Bottle. Deep brown color, wispy tan head. Full licorice aroma. Juicy malts and pronounced licorice flavor with rye and hints of coffee. Slightly tart mouthfeel with a sweet finish. Full body, medium-light carbonation. Not my idea of a superb barley wine, but it’s not bad either.
