so pale it could pass for champagne. so fizzy it could be ginger ale. bright white head can’t last. intensely sweet and grainy nose. sweet and prickly with a dry finish. use to be made in my hometown of belleville. i’m told by a miller rep that it is only produced for southern illinois and northern arkansas! did i metion i drink a ton of this crap at band practices?

Stag is a sentimental favorite from an era when I only cared about finding the cheapest beer. This is, however, the best of the dirt cheap, Midwestern lagers.

Poured a clear pale yellowish golden, very pale, with a frothy, rocky white head that slowly dissipates into a thin rocky, sudsy lacing, not a bad appearance for a macro lager.
Faint, largely clean nose, chalky sulfur lager yeastiness and cereal grains, a light, subtle sweet pale maltiness.
Good carbonation, not too fizzy, and a crisp, dry, macro thin, smooth light bodied mouthfeel.
Light tastes of thin sweet pale malts, cereal and rice, a very soft lemony, the mildest touch of grassy hops towards the end, more brisk than bitter, and a dry, clean finish.
Bland tasting, yes, but also without the huge blast of cooked corn you find in a lot of cheaply priced macro lagers, very easy to drink, highly quaffable.

Pretty average beer. I like it. Not too heavy of a taste yet kinda weak all at the same time. It’s plentiful here and I usually choose it without any regrets. It’s one of my favorites

Grabbed a 6er while visiting St Louis. Truly, it was about what I expected. Not a horrible beer, and I’m not upset I tried it, but it doesn’t distinguish itself in any way.

Here in Southeast Missouri, we call Stag by several nicknames - Stay Til All Gone, Steak Taters And Gravy, and Belleville (IL) Budweiser. A dry beer, very filling, never had a hangover on this stuff, albeit quite a few upset stomachs. Plenty of taste, if you can stand it - also, plenty of aftertaste ,again, if you can stand it. Just hasn’t been quite the same since Heilemann swallowed them up. Kind of like Busch Beer after they redesigned the can and dropped the Bavarian logo - something was changed. Back in the early 80’s, Stag was one of the last to stick with the two-tap (upper and lower) keg - back then - considering the college pallate - Stag out of a keg couldn’t be beat.

Steak
Taters
And
Gravy
is what its’ called in Southeast Missouri. Definitely if you grew up around these parts you have a soft spot for Stag Beer. Great logo and packaging. Tastes like piss water, but what else can you get for less than $10 a case?

stag is an awesome dry lager. it is always smooth and very hoppy. it is very full of flavor and has no sugar or salt. it is low carb and i never get a hangover or headache or sick from it. it is very potent. i love it best in the can poured in a glass or on tap. it is best found on tag in southern illinois and around st. louis and it’s old home...belleveille, IL. it is my fave after drinking european imports for years. it maybe your grandpa’s or dad’s beer, but just cause they don’t spend billions on ads like bud doesn’t mean a thing...drink a real beer...drink stag.
