I love this beer!! Had it in a bar in Tel Aviv, Israel. Very dark with medium head and a sweet AND slightly bitter aftertaste. My favorite dark lager. Here is my plea and I know it belongs in the forums. I can’t get this beer in the U.S.! Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can work something out it you can get it in your country. Thanks and regards to all fellow beer lovers.

A good and tasty Czech beer, one of the best beers available in grocery stores in Norway. Sweet malt and hoppy aftertaste give a full taste, certianly a beer I’ll buy more often.

What a dunkel by the Staropramen Breweries!!! So tasteful, that you can drink at any time. This is really a great experience. Typical standard for Czech brewers, the best in the world.

On tap, in Prague. I lucked into this one. It was brought to me by mistake. Dark brown, with a nice tan head. Nice roasted flavor. No bitterness.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Small, tan head with coarse lace over clear dark brown body. Aroma is light and sweet; not very strong. Taste is clean, light, not too powerful. Malty, with quite a bit of roastiness; roastiness grows more pronounced in aftertaste, which also has nice, rounded bitterness. A well-made beer, but not very exciting.

Great beer but not a knockout. Ultimately not as memorable as the Velkopopvicky Kozel Cerny beer, which is still the best Czech dark beer. Kozel Cerny (dark) did just win the gold medal at the Belgian world beer competition in 2005. Staropramen is great but not as great as Kozel. Compare them and you will understand.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2007 Bottle. Dark copper with off-white head. A disappointing aroma, mostly light malty. More interesting flavour, with roasted elements and some licorice that hides in the background. There’s also caramel in the flavour. Nice hops towards the end. (050929)
