Bottled, Pasteurised. Light golden yellow with chunky white head. Sweet malty pilsner with a lasting bitterness. Good fresh hop note with a pleasant aroma.

A very decent Pilsner. Pretty much in the same class as Pilsner Urquell and Czechvar.

Looks like straw and tastes like grass, Staropramen is almost everything you’d expect from a Czech lager. A pleasant skunkiness ostentatiously wafts out of the glass, with complimentary scents of vinyl and autumn leaves. On the palate there is surprising sweetness, which upsets the hop balance one looks for in a world-class lager. There’s a nice, bitter middle, but almost nothing at the beginning and end. A pleasant summer sipper, nothing special.

O.K. - this might be a passable pils, but just try to find one around here that hasn't been skunked beyond belief. Otherwise, it's thin and sweet, a peppery metallic hop finish. Clear light gold body, medium white head.

Pilsner. Probably overshadowed by Budvar, but Staropramen is easier to get on draught in the UK. Can be quite dry and musty when served in the average English town centre pub.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
This brew poured a medium head of small to large white bubbles that mostly diminished and left a fair lacing. The body was a transparent light golden color. It had a mild hop aroma. It was initially bitter with a mild hop flavor. The inital bite smoothened in in the finish and left a slightly tingly lingering mouthfeel.
