From the instant I popped the cap off this one, I could smell the hops - in a nice way. Pouring a just-right, rich gold colour, this was paired with an attractive white head which did leav a bit o’lace on departure. Aroma was again, hoppish, but not offensively so. Taste was a wee bit sharp, and enjoyable. Mouthfeel and aftertaste were also highly acceptable.

Green 11.2 oz bottle. Best by 23.09.2010.
Pop it open, no skunk, it is a pretty fresh bottle and has been kept out of the sun.
It pours a vibrant crystal clear gold with tons of bubbles and a giant white head that recedes leaving some lacing.
No skunk in the smell, but a nice dose of herbal hops and subdued but slightly sweet smelling malts. It smells like a Czech pilsener should, it is a prime example.
The taste is malty but with a nibble of hops, not like a German pils where there is perfect balance but this is good for a Czech. It is sweet but the hops level it out with some herbal bitterness.
It is a shame it is an AB product, but it is one of my favorite Czech pilseners.

This is definitely a great pilsner, not as good as budweiser budvar in my opinion though, it also has a similar mix of bitter and sweet aftertaste, but it’s just a little less bitter and sweet, so the taste is somewhat weaker.
Still better than most pilsners for sure.

golden colour, medium, white head; perfectly ballanced sweetness of malt and bitterness of hop, nothing special, just pure pilsener taste and appearance - this is what you expect from a czech beer.

This was an excellent beer. Very tasty. Reminded me of Pilsner Urquell quite a bit, but was just missing a little something. This is a great beer. Light and crisp. Nice aroma, and nice flavor. I love watching the bubbles in these Czech beers. They seem alive for some weird reason. And more alive than other beers I have seen.

There are certain characteristics that you would expect to run consistent within a beer but Staropramen really took me by surprise. I would have previously defined a Bohemian pilsner by its hop bitterness but this one is certainly much sweeter and probably more universally agreable than its ’original’ (read Urquell) equivalent. I almost get something of a bubblegum fruitiness. Certanly not the original and definitely not as good but undeniably worth its own merit. Maybe a Bohemian pilsner for the pretentious afficionado?

Light but very pleasant. My personal favorite Czech beer.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2006 This beer has a very complex taste: it begins with an almost fruity aroma followed by the bite of hops and ending with a rich grain taste. It acheives all this while remaining clean and refreshing. I tried this again under the name "Staropramen Premium Beer" and I can’t figure out if it’s the same brew or not; it was a while ago that I last drank it. This time around it’s an equally excellent brew, if anything it tastes a little bit less grassy, less fruity, and has a richer, fuller malt flavour.

One of the best Pilsners I’ve ever tasted. Amber hued, rich clean taste. Had this on tap in Prague. Still looking for it on tap in Toronto.

Dark gold pour into a pint glass; finger of head that lasted about a minute; good amount of lacing. Aroma was slightly of floral hops. Taste was ever so slightly sweet up front and finished with a mild bitter hop flavor. Mouthfeel was very good, had the right amount of carbonation, and didn’t leave any lingering aftertaste. Overall, a very drinkable beer with a very good overall flavor.
