750 mL bottle from the brewery. I won’t let the insane price tag on this affect my rating. Pours a dark brown color with a thin creamy brown head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, floral hops and mild bourbon notes. The taste is strong bourbon, wood, bitter leafy hops and roasted malts. Medium-full bodied. Creamy mouthfeel. Decent, though the bourbon could be balanced a bit better.

Aromas of citrus hops and subtle bourbon. Black-brown with ruby highlights, and a mostly fading, tan head. Dry, bitter, roasty, with flavors of bourbon and coconut. Medium-full body, low carbonation, and with a roasty, bitter finish.

Consumed at a recent DC area tasting. Served in a SAVOR snifter. Pours a very dark brown color, bordering on black. Initial pour yields a quarter-finger head, which then disappears almost immediately. The nose is surprising at first, bringing forward a large number of hops. THere is also a bit of bourbon and some booze. Nice roastiness there as well. The flavor melds the hops, roast, and bourbon better than the nose, creating a nice and cohesive whole. Mouthfeel is really smooth and the bourbon plays a really nice role. A nice beer with plenty of promise. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-30-2011

dark brown, wispy tan head. lightly smoked malt, meaty and off, also light cocoa. Flavor much sweeter, light cardboard, oppressive dryness with cake-chalk finish.

750ml bottle pours an oily, opaque black with zero head. Nose is boozy, fusel alcohol, toasted malts. Flavor is sweet, chocolate, brown sugar, malty, vanilla, light bourbon. Full bodied, hot finish. Well balanced flavors but the alcohol just needs some time to chill. Drinks like it’s 15% ABV.

Bottle. Pours opaque with a small, fizzy tan head, short retention with light to fair lacing. Aroma and flavor are heavy malt (chocolate, roast), medium spicy hops, fruity esters, plum, prune, dates, fig, bourbon, oak, and vanilla. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation with a sweet texture and dry finish.
