Bottled 9/21/12. Pours very dark reddish brown with a 2-finger brown head. Aromas of nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, pie crust, and cocoa. The flavor is pumpkin and spice, trending to cocoa and pie crust with an earthy finish. Ok. [1145]

Poured a deep brown with a light brown head which disappeared quickly......aroma of nutmeg.....taste is the smokey porter overpowering most else, with a slight touch of the spices, especially nutmeg coming through.

Transfer from BA review on 9-11-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Poured a deeper brown color with a big tan head. The head had decent retention fading over time to give only a lighter amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma is heavy of a sweet pumpkin smell. Mixed with the pumpkin is the presence of some chocolate, roasted malt and a little bit of nutmeg and allspice. Taste – The taste begins of roasted malt with a light hint of chocolate. A big pumpkin flavor hits the tongue immediately after the initial taste. It doesn’t combine with the roasted and chocolate flavors very well and when mixed with a light spice of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice the flavors really don’t meld. In the end a somewhat rotten roasted pumpkin flavor is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the beer was on the thinner side with a carbonation level that was rather average. Overall – A beer I certainly won’t go to again. The flavors had no compatibility/melding in this brew and resulted it too off a flavor.

Rated from notes taken 15 Sep 2011 -- Porter kinda dominates any pumpkin flavor. The pumpkin parts are too subtle in my opinion.

Bottle. Dark cola pour with some mocha head. Burnt soy sauce, licorice, dark roast, caramel, tire, pumpkin and spice. The aroma is a bit too much for me. Good carbonation in a medium and creamy body.

Draught. Pours dark with mild head. Cinammon cloves etc. Malts etc. Decent unspectacular

From a bottle. Pours dark brown with almost no head or lacing. Smells of pumpkin and spice, but the flavor profile doesn't work that well for me... Meh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours cola brown with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of cinnamon, pumpkin, and roasted malt. Cinnamon flavor upfront with pumpkin, chocolate, and hint of roasted malt flavor. Creamy body and surprisingly good lacing.

MadRobin (1893) - Silver Spring, USA - NOV 18, 2013
Poured from 12 oz. bottle at Quarry House Tavern in Silver Spring, MD. Very dark chestnut brown with a 2-finger tan head and good lacing. Aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon, chocolate, roasted malt and nuts. Taste of heavy cinnamon, roasted malt, nutmeg and brown sugar. The pie spices and malt are there, but taste "thin" and do not seem to play well together. Way too much cinnamon in there. Medium/light body and medium/low carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle thanks to Dmac. Pours out a dark brown color with a small off white head. Aroma is of enchilada sauce, strange spices, and caramel. Taste is equally as odd as the aroma, vegetables, light chocolate, some pumpkin notes, burnt chocolate, some more odd spices. Very strange.

Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Smells a little of chocolate and a very subtle pumpkin. Taste is a touch of chocolate, a hint of pumpkin, and a very subtle spice note. Medium-bodied with a smooth, wet texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Starr Hill Boxcarr Pumpkin Porter finishes with a faint kiss of pumpkin.
