Boxcar Pumpkin Porter is a traditional English-style Brown Porter with pumpkin added to the mash. Light spicing allows the subtle flavors of pumpkin and roasty porter to shine through. Boxcar is a session beer at 5.2% and very drinkable.

bottled - tastes and smells like a cross between a pumpkin beer and a porter - hence the name I guess. Not bad and not great. Drinkable. Nice color and mouthfeel.

Not great. Seems like a porter base would pair well with the pumpkin- but in this case it was decent idea, poor execution. Pours a transparent brown- body too thin. Pumpkin spices seem overly prevalent with little malt/hop backbone. Watered down. Balance is off. Just Meh.

Draught. This is a middling brew without a whole lot going for it. The pumpkin flavor tastes over wrought.

Dark pour with minimalish but splashy head. Smell is pumpkin spice, little bit of roast. Taste is really bland with some light pumpkin flavors and a weakish porter base.

12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a slim, shmeer of light beige foam.

Smell: Nominal notes, a bit bland, really, barely hinting at roast and toast and failing to deliver any expected pumpkin or spicing.

Taste: Washed out, watery roast in the fore with little in the way of supporting elements like chocolate, caramel or coffee accents. Minimal pumpkin flavor, restrained spice. Very, very low hop flavor, bitterness. Quietly, unashamedly closes out dry with the same simple roastiness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Disappointing. Falls short at being a porter and at being a pumpkin-anything, leaving you with an essentially characterless beer that leaves you scratching your head wondering as to whether or not this was the intended final beer.

Pours a deep dark brown with a thin ran head. Not much of an aroma. Taste is bitter. Nice roast to it. Similar to a stout. A hint of spice. A little watery.

Pours a translucent dark mahogany with a thin khaki head. Aroma is spicy with pumpkin and nutmeg. Mild carbonation in the mouth. Has a nice pumpkin and spice taste. This is real good.

12oz bottle, free, birthday party, thanks Kennon. Pours deep red brown with medium, thick beige head. Good lace. Nose is metallic, doggy, underneath is excellent allspice and nutmeg medley, melted chocolate truffle. Taste is lighter, slightly metallic, quite earthy, soil, quite bitter. No sugar, low spice, not too dusty. Thinner.

This is a weak pumpkin beer. There really isn’t much positive to say about this one. Very average

OK, I really want to like this beer. Its from Virginia, it looks great, it pours great, but it just isn’t as delicious as the aroma and appearance indicate. While the front end of the taste is pleasant with decent balance between roasted malt, spices, a hint of pumpkin, and hop flavors, this quickly fades and falls into a flat mid-palate and a mediocre or unpleasant aftertaste.
