Very light on the pumpkin, more in flavor than aroma. This is a roasty porter first. It has a very mineral water profile, almost chemical, like it is chlorinated.

Tap. Pours a clear dark brown body with a small foamy light brown head that faded to a thin film. The nose is pretty nice, a mix of chocolate malt, pumpkin meat, vanilla, and maybe a touch of nutmeg and molasses. The flavor is fairly sweet up front with a nice balance of sweetness from the malt and subtle spicing and authentic tasting pumpkin. Finishes with burnt caramel and a touch of malt bitterness. Light to medium bodied, a little clingy with soft fizzy carbonation. Pretty decent effort. I like the pumpkin flavor in this.

Bottle. Pours black with no head to speak of. The aroma is pumpkin pie spice and little else. The taste has a light spice, maybe nutmeg, and some light roast. Thin palate.

THOUGHTS: Not as good as I was hoping for. Sort of watered down. And what flavor was there was sour. Pumpkin and pumpkin pi spices were very subtle.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was nearly black in the glass with red highlights and an average, tan head that kept a thin sheet ad left barely fair lacing. The aroma had light; roasted malts; hints of chocolate and sour coffee; a little sour pumpkin; and hints of pumpkin pie spices. The initial flavor was slightly sweet and lightly sour and bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and bitter, and moderately sour with an average duration. There was roasted malt, sour coffee, hints of sour pumpkin, slight pumpkin pie spices; and a little chocolate. But overall it was a little watery. The medium body was oily and then dry with soft carbonation and a lightly astringent finish.

From a bottle. Pours opaque brown with a light foamy head. Tastes rich and full of pumpkin. Nice and light on the spices. Smells like vegetables. Medium body and low / medium carbonation.

Bottled 9/21/12. Pours very dark reddish brown with a 2-finger brown head. Aromas of nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, pie crust, and cocoa. The flavor is pumpkin and spice, trending to cocoa and pie crust with an earthy finish. Ok.

Bottle: † Brown, thin tannish head, little lacing. † Faint pumpkin and squash, roasted malts. † Backside of cinnamon and nutmeg. † Not as roasty on the tongue, softer, spritzy, not thin but not as smooth as I would like. † Faint spices, overall. † Weak porter, good nose, but not as spicy as I would have liked, or heavy.

On tap at Porterís, Raleigh. Dark brown pour with a very lively carbonation, cola bubbles on top. Strongly spiced and surprisingly sweet nose, whereas I was expecting something more dusky and muted. But I suppose itís a pumpkin porter in the way of most pumpkin beers, that is to say: nutmeg and allspice covering up whatís a fairly indistinct base beer.

Opaque black/brown with a 1/4" beige head with good retention, streaks of lace. Taste is mostly chalky toasted malt with a hint of pumpkin and spice. Hop bitters enter at the finish and linger into more chalkiness. Only average, hardly more than just another beer to rate.

Bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with average, creamy beige; good retention and decent lacing. Aroma is caramel and cookie malt, pumpkin, floral hops, chocolate, and light roast. Flavor pumpkin and dark malts forward with some chocolate and faint hops; dry, semi-bland finish. Medium body and low carbonation.
