3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Poured like a primer-book stout, dark and black with a nice stubborn tan head. Aroma is nice dark chocolate and coffee-like, too. Nice start. The first sip is almost too sharply sweet, like candy. As it warms and as I drink, that sweetness mellows a bit, but it remains quite a sweet beer, the ashy chocolatey-ness left to the back seat. Still an enjoyable stout, but falls short of its potential. (#2954, 6/3/2007)

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the Union Street Tavern in Alexandria: Pours a nearly opaque with dark brown edges and a thin cover of light tan head. Aroma is slightly roasty with a touch of earthy hops and dark chocolate. Body is fairly full for the style and dry with decent earthy dark malts and some mild dark chocolate toward the drier finish. An ok dry stout.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a thin light brown head. Very roasty - almost burnt, but not quite - malty nose with some coffee notes. Body is a bit thin. Roasty malt flavor, coffee more pronounced than the nose. Light bitter finish. Not bad.

On draught, Sept 2006. A nice thick head. Dark black/brown. Smell was not very strong. Aroma only of light chocolate. Taste was very smooth. Very creamy state. Standout flavors were chocolate, smoky, and caramel. Very good after taste. Not a strong hop presence. Very enjoyable.
