2.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: AUG 11, 2011 Bottle. Poured a deep dark murky black with a small (less than 1 finger) creamy light brown foamy head that was fully diminishing and had fair lacing.
The aroma was very, very mild of dark roasted malts, a mild resin hop and a sweet leathery yeast with a tinge of coffee, toffee and dark chocolate.
It tasted bitter-sweet initially with a note of dark chocolate and finished with a mild hoppy flavor and had a mild coffee note at the end that left the flavor lasting only a short while.
Mouthfeel was light to medium bodied and definitely had a watery feel to it yet was slightly dry in texture with a flat carbonation.
Overall an OK brew, but not much to offer for a Stout. A little light in body and flavor for my liking.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Not bad from star hill. Dark pour. Thin tan head. Chocolate coffee with bitter hop pallet. Ends dry. Not quite as smooth as a true Guinness. More like a low abv black ipa.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from a box into a snifter. Pour is brown to black with a small off white to light tan head. Nose is a lightly tart coffee and roast. Taste is like watered down burnt coffee with no mouthfeel whatsoever. Thin, blah, meh.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Keg @ Starr Hill. Brown with a small head. Pepper, brown sugar, dark chocolate. Taste is similar. Roasted coffee. Abrasive bitterness. Cream. Not quite in sync. Medium body, moderate carbonation.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, twist-off top, marked 09/08/13. Nose is a little dank and musty, chocolate and some roast, sweet and airy. Pours ruby-edged black with a huge airy brown head, slow-going for sure. Flattish body despite the over-carbonation, lightly sweet and far from cloying, some lactose-like milkiness and cola-like acidity and sharpness. Light body but not watery, mostly forgettable.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Transfer from BA review on 10-20-12-
Poured from bottle in to pint glass
Appearance – Pours a deep brown nearly black color with a one finger tan head. The head fades fast to give a moderate amount of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of roasted malt, coffee and some light toffee aromas.
Taste – The taste starts out roasty and malty with some caramel flavors. These flavors remain constant throughout the taste. Some toffee flavors combined with the roasted flavors of the start and sweeten the brew more in the middle. As the taste advances further some coffee flavors come to the tongue and add some bitterness to the tongue. In the end, while still sweet there is a slightly bitter flavor left lingering on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter side with a carbonation level that is rather average. A thicker body would have been slightly better for the roasted flavors, but for a 4.2 % I guess you can’t expect anything too thick.
Overall – A decent light stout, but nothing that is really all that fantastic. It is sort of a sweet version of Guinness draught without the nitro. If looking for a low alcohol stout, would take a Guinness over this.

Pours dark brown and cloudy, small frothy head and short-lived lacing. Licorice aroma, but bitter dark chocolate on the buds. I like this beer.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 6/20
UPDATED: MAY 29, 2014 Bottle: Nearly black with some deep-brown shining through the very top, capped with a thick, beige head that leaves nice lacing behind. Aroma is too mild... Some roasted/toasted grain & malt with a nebulous, non-fitting fruity note of faint white grapes & raisins... Strange. Taste has roasted malt, light brown sugar & some toffee, but there’s a strange, almost tangy dark fruit presence that doesn’t really fit. Raisin, black currant, but almost too tangy & tart without a big enough dark-malty presence to account for it. Hint of burnt wood chips in the aftertaste. Weird stout, not my favorite.
