Double the hops, double the fun! Double Platinum is dry hopped with Simcoe hops to achieve a very pungent citrus aroma and a well-balanced malt backbone. The beer weighs in at approximately 8.5% ABV.

The aroma is impressive with lots of citrus and pine hops to go along with bread like yeast and malt. The appearance is cloudy orange amber with an impressive large head that lasts and makes lots of lace (impressive)! The taste is astringent and somewhat caramely. The palate is thin. Overall a mixed bag.

Pours a nice amber with a thick 1/4" head. Light aroma of malt, and honey and citrus hops. Nice smooth palate with a light to medium bodied. Pretty good actually.

12oz bottle pours a weird, tan sort of color with a thin, eggshell head. Nose is very pungent, pine, grapefruit, soap, lemons, limes, orange zest, a little bit malty. Flavor is fairly solid, heavy pine, heavy soap, the citrus is a little muddled, some grapefruit, some lemon. Good malt backing, crackers, some light caramel. Full bodied, bitter finish. Well balanced.

12oz bottle. Cloudy orange in color with a quickly fading white head. The aroma is very nice with Simcoe hops dominant - lots of orange, fruit and zest. Some sweet malt. The flavor has mildly sweet malt and a big Simcoe hop burst with orange and pineapple. Decent but a bit one-note. Average bitterness. Medium body with some astringency and light carbonation. Not too shabby, but just doesn’t stand up to many others in the style.

Pours a very clear gold with a thick, foamy white/tan head...excellent retention and lacing. Aroma is subdued but has mild citrus...pineapple, mango. Flavor has some sweet malty notes and loads of grapefruity citrus...also some tealike leafy notes. Mouthfeel is oily and thick and the finish is dry and has bitter grapefruit.

I have not had a Starr Hill beer that has impressed me before, so I did not have high expectations. I drank this alongside a Burton Baton and DFH90. I was quite impressed with this beer after a couple of sips, and after I finished half the bottle, had made my mind up to get a case tomorrow. Quite dry compared to DFH DIPAs, really lovely hopping ... I found the aroma and taste to be fairly unique, and I buy/drink Weyerbacher’s Simcoe ale often. Really, a nice DIPA if you’re tired of the overly sweet varieties that seem too prevalent these days. Highly recommended, may become a new favorite, I preferred this over the DFH beers! Oh, the name I think is goofy, but we don’t drink the name.

5oz pour at Pizzeria Paradiso in Alexandria VA. Poured a cloudy copper color with a small relatively white head. Aroma was caramel notes, honey, citrus. Flavor was pretty subtle, considering the ABV. Well crafted Imperial IPA - enjoyable, tasty. Will keep an eye out for this particular brew in the future to see if it’s as good in the bottle.

From a bottle poured an amber color with a fair amount of head. Nice strong hoppy flavor with a lingering finish.

Bottle… This beer rocks!... Crystal clear, brilliant amber ale with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Excellent retention. The fruity bouquet furnishes pineapple, mango, peach, apricot, grapefruit spicy, earthy hops. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. Medium to heavily bitter. Not a lot of hop flavor, but plenty of rindy, tannic, lupulin bite. Subtle biscuit and caramel malts. Finishes lengthy, bitter and a bit dry. Very pleasantly surprised by this brew. World class bottle of beer provided by scraff!
