COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Grateful creates a fresh spin on the American Pale Ale tradition. A strong citrusy, resinous aroma from the American hops leads into a light body with subtle malt flavor. Grateful is a sessionable brew at 4.7% abv.

Pours a sharp and crystal clean straw blonde with two fingers of white head. Very pretty and unassuming. The aroma is a little skunky and grassy with notes of citrus rind and hay. Very dry and light bodied in the mouth. Citrus rind and a grassy bitterness. Very little malt interference and very easy to drink on. Nice

Tasting at Matt’s, can
Hazy blond color, small head. The aroma is a bit citrusy, not bad. But the flavor is too dry, with just some crispy malt, and later a light citrus character. Extremely dry final, a bit papery.

473mL can, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is dull, with biscuity malt and feint floral hops. Flavour brings out dry crackery malt and some mild resinous hops. Nothing special, but still quite drinkable. Very dry palate. Decent.

Atlanta, Ga - Hop City - 12 oz bottle. Medium copper pour, quickly fading off-white head. Aroma has a slight spruce bent to it, bit not well pronounced. Flavor is standard pale ale, some light citrus bitterness, a touch of brief cake mix, some white grape juice. Mouthfeel has a decent crispness to it. Decent session material.

UPDATED: SEP 10, 2014 Bitter, piney hops completely dominate this pale ale. Neither body nor malt manages to balance it properly. Points for keeping the abv well below the standard for the style.

Poured a deep yellow color from the 16 ounce can, with aromas of light citrus, malt and some resin. Flavors were floral hops with some light citrus and some malt. Light overall.

Draft. Pours a mostly clear golden yellow color with a large offwhite head. Aroma is a faint citrus, resiny hop character with a touch of pale malt sweetness. Flavor is a bit bland, with light malty sweetness. Very light in body. Goes down easily. An OK pale, but nothing extraordinary.

DATE REVIEWED: July 12, 2014... GLASSWARE: Brew at the Zoo pint... OCCASION: return from a great day at Point Pleasant--tired but thirsty...APPEARANCE: pours a bright, almost completely clear orange-yellow with crisscross effervescence; white head flames up the glass after thinning out efficiently; little lacing... AROMA: melon and bubblegum invade the nostrils; flowery hints of springtime and perfume--an attractive start... PALATE: a bit hard at the start, forcing expectations to more of an IPA--but thin at the end, with a lagerish aftertaste...in essence, a slightly uncomfortable mouthfeel... TASTE: dishwasher lemon zest comes through most prominently with some hay mown in; an odd, lagerish malty quality hovers at the edge of each sip; slightly sour ... OVERALLL: the "grateful" appellation suggests to me that something is owing to the Dead’s legacy, musical or otherwise, but this ale offers a slightly disjointed flavor profile, with enough syrupy, candied sweetness to challenge the drinker towards the next sip--not the goal of a pale ale...

12 ounce bottle. Bright yellow gold with a large foamy white head. Fresh citrus, pine hop aroma. Light toasted malt nose, as well. Light toasted malt flavor with a slight metallic note. Grassy hops with a slight citrus twang. Dry hop finish. Ordinary, at best.
