COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Starr Hill’s Jomo Lager is a smooth, multiple-award-winning Light Amber Lager. Fermented with Southern German Lager yeast, its crisp, clean taste, and noticeable hop aroma are effectively balanced with a slight malty sweetness. This is a crossover beer that appeals to the broadest spectrum of brew aficionados.

12 oz dated purchase before Dec. 2011 and served in a pint glass. Tad of sediment on bottom of bottle added mid-tasting. Pours a nice orange-amber, dark for style, but with only a little off-white head that rather quickly reduces to a ring. Not much in the way of aroma, although both light/medium malt and spicy hops are evident. The flavor too seems at first unremarkable, but there is an extra bit of bitter hops in here, as well as some ’extra’ malt. The body is a bit fuller than average. O - This is not a particularly bold or interesting style, and this beer stays too close to the low expectations for a macro-brewery lager excepting the extra spicy and bitter hops. The semi-dry and relatively full mouthfeel also elevate this beer. Still, I found it not flawed, perhaps, but not good or interesting enough to recommend to anyone except fans of this style.

Malty, sweet. A fizzy head, light and crisp, nutty and a bit of bread/cereal. Hints of hops in the finish, but not much.

March madness 2015. The beer is well balanced and is pretty tasty. What is missing for me is a greater grain complexity. The noble hops flavor does not come through.

16oz pint at Clyde’s in Chinatown pours a clear amber with some creamy, white head. Nose is fine, some yeast, some bread, a little root veg, some mild soap, not much else. Flavor has a rusty penny thing happening, some muddle citrus, but mostly just yeast and bread. Merciful, clean finish.

Appearance: medium light amber; clear, with a short off-white head. Aroma: light caramel malts, hint of toffee, bit of grass and light fruit. Taste: as the aroma indicates. Finish: very short, with a slight grassy minerality (maybe a hint of metal) lasting the longest. Notes: This would actually be a better Oktoberfest beer than their own Oktoberfest/Marzen ("Festie", it’s called). Bottle from Total Wine and More, McLean, Virginia.

Bottle. Nose is sweet and floral, juicy citrus -- really nice effect from noble hops -- and a lightly grainy toasty malt character. Pours orange-golden with strong carbonation and a soapy beige head. Oily light body, plenty of malt and juicy citrus juice, light toasting and crisp, dried out, very low bitterness, clean and lightly floral. Reminds of some recent improvements to authentic German Pilsner, especially in the hop department, but the malt is thin and a bit weak, bit tired despite the mild refreshemnt.

Transfer from BA review on 7-7-12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a light amber/golden color with a thin white head. The head fades fast to leave very little lacing. Smell – Mainly of bread and some yeast aromas as well. Mixed with this is a somewhat sweet caramel aroma with lighter hop aromas of floral nature. Taste – A lightly toasted flavor meets the tongue initially. There are light sweet notes of fruit; citrus and some peach and apricot. As the taste advances a light hoppy flavor comes to the tongue. These flavors take the taste to the end and leave a rather pleasant semi sweet/ slightly hoppy flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body is on the average side as well as the carbonation level. Both are quite fitting and appropriate for the flavors of the beer. Overall – Easy to drink, but again nothing to special. Good flavors, but nothing to go out of the way for.
