COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Starr Hill’s Jomo Lager is a smooth, multiple-award-winning Light Amber Lager. Fermented with Southern German Lager yeast, its crisp, clean taste, and noticeable hop aroma are effectively balanced with a slight malty sweetness. This is a crossover beer that appeals to the broadest spectrum of brew aficionados.

Sampled at Old Dominion Brewfest ’06. Clear copper with an off-white head. Toastiness, caramel in the nose. Flavor has notes of kilned toasty caramel malt, toffee and some grassy european hops. Moderately sweet, a good shot of bitterness appears at the end. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Pretty solid.

not a big fan of this brew, though it’s more against the style than the brew. a pretty standard vienna.

Draft, Luigi’s Downtown, Harrisonburg VA. Reddish gold color with off-white head. Light sweet malt nose with a bit of astringency. Flavor follows: light sweetish malt with a bit of crisp underlying bitterness. Smooth texture. A solid drinkin’ beer, and we gotta like those....

This seems like a beer that would be great if you were about to take the plunge from the big three into everything else. It has enough body and style to make you curious to what else is out there, but it lacks the character of some better beers from the style. It is a decent beer that deserves a try, but it isn’t one that will knock your socks off. On tap is my preference.

Another Starr Hill brew where part (or all?) of the output comes from Old Dominion. Deep gold colour. Mild malt aroma. Dry malt flavour. Slightly smoky. There’s a touch of hay, but the hops are very muted. OK, but it didn’t really get my mojo working. On tap at the Starr Hill Brewery.

Amber coloured body with no head at all to speak of. Aroma of caramel, toffee, a bit of hops and some malt. Medium-bodied; Malty flavour with some hops. Aftertaste is clean with a bit of malt leftover. Overall, decent, but not amazing! I sampled this on ’pseudo-draught’ at the Old Dominion Brew Festival 2004 on 27-June-2004 in Ashburn, Virginia.

Copper-orange. Quite malty, sweet and bready, bit toasty. Hoppy, also bit lemony and sweet. Rather good.
