Bottle. Pours black with a 2 finger ran head. Nose is overwhelmingly coffee grinds. Taste is similar but finishes with some milky sweetness and a touch of pepper. Mouthfeel is a little thin but sufficient carb. Has potential but the coffee is just overwhelming. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Beer and Bacon. Pours dark brown with a fizzy light brown head. Tastes like burnt coffee, burnt toast, bittersweet chocolate, light syrup. Light body and low carbonation. Smells bad burnt toast and black coffee.

Bottle from Shawan Liquors. Pours black with an inch of khaki head. Leaves a little lacing in the glass. Has a nice roasted coffee nose. Has some solid lactose notes to blend with the coffee on the tongue. Finishes fairly clean. Finally a Starr Hill beer that doesnít completely suck.

22 ounce bottle (dated 02/14/14) poured into a Belgian snifter. Pours dark brownish black with half a finger of tan head. Aromas of coffee, roast, cola, vanilla, a little creamy notes. Tasting notes of coffee, vanilla, roast, dark chocolate, cola. Medium body with a dry finish. Creamy mouthfeel, medium carbonation. One of the better offerings from Starr Hill that Iíve had.

Pours an opaque coffee that lets in a sliver of daylight at the bottom and has a thick tan head. Quality coffee dominates the tempting aroma, but lets through notes of roast malt, caramel and toffee. Flavor delights with rich coffee, caramel and malty notes plus hints of toffee and chocolate. Drinking like this is like drinking a fancy iced brew from Caribou Coffee, except for the alcohol. Firm, fizzy texture leaves a satisfying roast coffee finish. This one will get you crowing!

22 ounce bottle - Barrel & Barley Craft Beer Market

Hand-written package date of 2-24-14.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a smallish, brief, light tan head.

Smell: A rush of fresh-roasted coffee beans atop roasty, lightly chocolaty malts, a hint of a burnt element, with dark fruity esters throughout.

Taste: Roasted malt, chocolate and coffee dosed with a splash of milk and a spoonful of sugar. Thin sliver of char presents itself. Dark fruitiness. Coffee on the back half into the thinnish, nigh watery finish.

Mouthfeel: Falls a bit shy of medium-bodied and itís noticeable. Medium carbonation.

Overall: By no means is it the richest, heartiest coffee-dosed stout around, but, at least itís got a pleasing coffee-toned flavor and aroma.

Look and smell gets you excited than it gets a little too thin in the mouthfeel and the taste doesnít quite match the aroma. Not bad but a bit of a letdown after the amazing aroma. Where is the sweetness?

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 2/7/14

Aroma: The nose is burnt malts, roast, and some sweet malts too, mostly unsweetened coffee
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a light brown head a decent lacework
Flavor: The flavor is quite coffee, leans unsweetened, with burnt malts and sweet notes too
Palate: The body is medium, leaning light, not watery, soft carbonation and a clean, dry finish
Overall Impression: Interesting stuff. It is much more of a dry, roasty, unsweetened coffee beer than a sweet coffee beer. Works pretty nicely.

Bottle. Almost looks like coffee ... rich and black, with a bit of a latte, thin but frothy top. The aroma and flavor adds a component of dark chocolate to the java character. Nice mouthfeel, rich flavors but still easy to drink. Very nice. (#5355, 12/9/2013)
