Starr Hill’s Little Red RooStarr Coffee Cream Stout is a full bodied milk stout brewed with coffee from our friends at Red Rooster Coffee Roasters in Floyd, VA. Malt sweetness, chocolate and caramel notes dominate the flavor, while roasted coffee notes add balance and round ou the aroma.

Bottle. Pours black with a 2 finger ran head. Nose is overwhelmingly coffee grinds. Taste is similar but finishes with some milky sweetness and a touch of pepper. Mouthfeel is a little thin but sufficient carb. Has potential but the coffee is just overwhelming. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of coffee, bitter malt, alcohol, raisins, earth, nuts and a little vanilla and milk sugar. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive coffee flavour at first with a thin feeling and a lot of lactose notes right behind. Aftertaste shows a bitter coffee note, some light roasted malt, alcohol and a raisin and light pit fruit sweetness on the finish. Overall, an appropriate beer for the style that has a bit of a lacking aftertaste, but a mostly solid beer with a lot of milky flavour, but still showing coffee and chocolate notes throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom, Eye Street NW), DC on 05-February-2015 for US$3,49 sampled at home in Washington on 07-May-2015.

Black with a moderate beige-ish tan head. The aroma contains some strong coffee notes with some milk chocolate and malted milk balls. The flavor is very roasty with dominance of coffee flavor but oddly not bitterness. Coffee hits you at first with some mild chocolate notes in the background. The body on this is thinner than you would think but the flavor is there. Overall a pretty good stout.

Black with a thick tan head. Aroma is big coffee, almost like an espresso. Flavor is coffee with a strong bittersweet finish. Main complaint is lack of body, bit otherwise excellent. Wife: 4.5

Deep and dark with a tannish brown head. Coffee, roasty malt, and hints of cocoa and toast. A bit of crispness to the finish.

Keg @ Starr Hill. Deep brown with a tight tan head. Plenty of coffee, eclair, roast, ash. Sort of nutty. Taste of cold coffee, se creamer. Raisin. Cocoa. Light vanilla. Ashy dry finish. Soft carb. Easy-drinking. Well-rounded.

This is the best thing I’ve had from Starr Hill. It pours dense, dark brown with a little bit of tan head. The is sweet coffee, maybe a little chocolate in the background. The flavor is really sweet, smooth, rich, and delicious. The finish is a little watery, but that ends up working in the beer’s favor. Sweet beers can grow cloying before the last sip, but this one stayed smooth and enjoyable. It suggests a number of possibly damn good food pairings. I’ll have this again, hopefully at a restaurant.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body under a one finger fizzy light brown head that faded to a thin ring. The nose is very nice, sweet cream, fresh brewed coffee, caramel, roast, smells like dessert in a glass to me. The flavor is roasty with a fairly restrained sweetness given the heavy lactose in the nose. The coffee and chocolate notes are really nice as well. Maybe a bit thin in the body and on the finish, but that’s being a bit petty. Pretty nice beer, but then again, I’m a bit of a sucker for coffee beers.

Bottle from The Stout Brothers in Smyrna, GA. Deep cola/brown pour with a small ring head. Big aroma of coffee grounds. Some roasty coffee on taste, with a hint of caramel sweetness. Palate is moderate, with a touch of lively carbonation.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. Aroma- It smells like I am smelling my coffee pot! A very strong and nice smelling coffee aroma. Appearance- Uhhmm, did I mention coffee? with a light brown head. really nice looking. Taste- Whoa, coffee and malt. I really like the flavor. Palate- A medium to heavy body with real light carbonation. Overall- I am new to the Milk Stout style and this is a great awakening for me. I really enjoyed it.
