Lucy is a light English summer ale, spiced with ginger, lime, and coriander. It will remind you of warm summer nights on the beach.

grassy other wise barely there except for a rotten after taste. glad I tried one before making a BOGO commitment with a 6 of their Northern Lights, which is tasty.

December 2010: Pours straw yellow with a white head. A light beer with some spicy aromas, but not my kind of beer.

12 oz bottle from mixed "Summer Tour" 12-pack dated best by 17 Dec. 2011. Served August 2011 in a pint glass. Poured fairly clear, golden straw color with a small and short-lived white head. Visible carbonation is very fine-grained. No significant sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Had an unusual bright, spicy aroma, with citrus (mainly lime), ginger, lavender, and ... ah, some elements like those from incense found in some Asian shops. [checks brewer’s website, finding "spiced with ginger, lime, and coriander">. Overall, smells too heavily spiced. Some malt appears after warming. More intriguing than promising. The taste is spicy, but the spicing, though considerable, is not over the top. Plenty of lime and ginger, with the coriander (and lavender, ha) more in the background. Good spicy finish and a nice aftertaste largely reflecting the spices. Medium-light body; nice carbonation level; slightly astringent; some tactile effects of the ginger; semi-dry finish. O - An intriguing and distinctive ale that I expect will be loved by many and disliked by plenty of others, including anyone who dislikes ginger. I’m in the middle somewhere, with the ale becoming more appealing with further consumption.

Pours crystal clear pale yellow with a large fizzy white head that fades quickly leaving a small ring around the glass. Aroma has lots of lime, spice, bready sweetness. Taste is too sweet, spiced, thin. Watery texture, fizzy, not really terrible, maybe good on a 95 degree day after mowing grass for a few hours, but not good right now.

Golden pour, medium head which quickly dissipated. Aroma of some lime and lemon, hint of malts. Flavor of lime and maybe some ginger, and a lot of metallic aspects. Very blah.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2011 Location: Draft at Captial Ale, 9/10/11

Aroma: The nose has some bread, a little bit of lemon, light malts, and light grassy hops
Appearance: This one pours a clear golden color with a small white head and light lace
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, some light sweetness, and light-mid hoppiness as well
Palate: The body is fairly light on this one, there’s not a ton going on, but it feels fairly refreshing
Overall Impression: This beer was OK overall. It isn’t great, but it is refreshing enough, and it does the job. I wouldn’t rush out for it again, but it was worth trying once.

Golden, head that fades leaving some light lace. Nose is lime, lemon, ginger. Pretty weak flavor, some lime, some grain, ginger. Ends a little bitter with notes of plastic. Not very good.

Pours light straw yellow with one finger of foamy white head. Very floral and citrusy nose, lots of lime and ginger and floral notes. Slightly soapy character, lots of ginger and lime. Bleh.

Unfortunately, this beer does not remind me of warm summer nights on the beach. It reminds me more of the average evening in southeastern PA where I dump three-quarters of a bottle of bad beer down the kitchen sink drain. This sorry excuse of a beer pours a cloudy golden color with very little head. There is minimal lacing around the glass as well. The nose has a bit of fruitiness to it, along with some lemon, coriander and yeast. The flavors are rather disgusting, with notes of sour and bitter fruit, lime, month-old grapefruit and dish soap. The finish is very sour and leaves a horrible aftertaste on my palate. This is the second beer I’ve had from Starr Hill, and both of them have been horrible. I have two or three more in a 12-pack sampler I bought in Virigina. I really hope the others aren’t as bad as the first two.

This is a nice, very light lager with a slight hint of ginger. Not overly strong, but very smooth, soothing, and a lot could go down my gullet, but I would still rather pick an ale. Overall not a failure by starr hill. One of the more interesting american craft beer lagers. On tap at Flying Saucer.
