Draft. Pours a bright golden yellow with a medium white head. Aroma and flavor are very hoppy. Lots of floral and citrus notes, particularly grapefruit. Some bitter pineyness in the finish. Not much malt. A nice beer, but rather one note.

Elwood (3336) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - FEB 27, 2010
Serving: Draft at Tap House in Charlottesville. It pours a light amber gold with a small, foamy, off-white head. The nose is very hop forward with notes of florals, grapefruit, and a slight graininess. The taste reminds me of something that was dry hopped with the hops definitely taking center stage. Herbal, floral, and citric notes are all present, but not much from the malt side. Medium bodied with medium carbonation and a long, hoppy finish. Overall there wasn’t much to make this brew stand out, but it is still decent and sessionable.

On draft at OTH. Pours clear gold with soapy white head. Nose is slight caramel, grapefruit, pine, and bitterness. Flavor is similar with some sweetness added to the bitterness. Medium body and so-so overall.

Purchased at Winslow’s Tavern, Greenville, NC No head whatsoever. Decent flavor but was flat. Disappointed - made me feel like I had a bad bottle (it was a twist top).

Draft. Nice everyday crisp IPA. Very clean, with straightforward citric hops (lemon), a bit floral too. Lightly sweet, bready malts back it up. Balanced finish.

On tap at Brixx, Chapel Hill. As far as I can recall, this is my first beer from Starr Hill and I found it pretty enjoyable. As a session IPA, it satisfies in the same way that Ballast Point’s Big Eye does. Everything hits nicely to style, with a very full, wafting, floral aroma. Body is creamy, with a nice head and malts for substance and a hint of chewiness. Sweet hops to start but it’s a well balanced beer for sure, with a pleasantly dry finish. Nicely done.

Bottle back from VA over christmas. Floral aroma with a little bubble gum action is pretty interesting and nice. The flavor is vastly different though on the hop spectrum as it leaves a bit of a fusel alcohol and band aid kind of flavor on the finish. Mid palate though is some nice caramel malt. There are some grassy hops working mid palate as well which is tasty. Other than that all too bitter finish, everything else is working well.
