3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 oz bottle in a paired tasting with Leinenkugel’s Big Butt Dopplebock.
Like the Leinenkugel Big Butt Dopplebock, the aroma is more appealing than the flavor.
Feel: medium-ful body with medium-low carbonation.
O: compared to the Leinenkugel, this is more traditional, with a notably higher ABV, less caramel malt, and more bitterness. Overall, I preferred the Leinenkugel Big Butt.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Clear brown pour with ring of khaki head. Sweet toffee and plum nose followed by flavorful notes of raisin bread, pepper, prunes, and more toffee. finishes slightly hot with twinge of medicinal/bandaid on the tail end, but not enough to be bothered by. Decent doppel.

1.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Found this to have a very bitter metallic aftertaste. Not sure if I just had a bad bottle or not but it was a drain pour.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Frankly, I’m drunk and, from an outside-looking-in perspective, wouldn’t trust my judgment (as regards rating this beer on it’s 5-point scale). Nevertheless, this was my introduction to this particular beer and I found it to be EXACTLY what I’ve been searching for.....perfectly seated between Russian Stouts and brown ales.
I was also overwhelmed with the fact that it’s brewed right here in Virginia (F--- Yeah!)
This beer gives me a mouth-feel and richness in between the two......and thoroughly kicked my ass after about five beers (I’m 6’1" & 235lbs)......perfect!
Not too rich (like the former)......not too thin (like the latter)...and perfectly balanced alcohol to allow me to socialize before becoming too inebriated to perform.
Okay, so if you like light beer.....take a hike; I’m obviously not talking to you. If you’re feeling "manly" and can’t even begin to consider anything below "Stout" rating, good for you.....go dead-lift a castle.
But if you’ve been looking for that "kick your ass" beer with a full flavor and refreshing beer taste, try this beer; it is the shiznit.
And that’s all I have tuh say about that...

1/22/2015. From bottle. Dark brown with a tan head. Sweet fruity aromas with honey, malt and caramel. Sweet flavors, alcohol not showing much. Figs, malt, caramel. A nice seasonal brew.
