COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A German-style Hellerbock with a few twists, The Gift is Starr Hill’s holiday offering. The beautiful golden color only hints at the fire inside. Made with two-row and Munich malts and balanced with German noble hops, The Gift is the perfect accompaniment to any holiday event or festivity.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle. It pours a hazy amber orange with a foamy, off-white head. Decent head retention. The nose has notes of citrus, grass, wet paper, a bit of hay, and green apple. The flavor profile is light with notes of bread, a subtle fruity-honey sweetness, a bit of dough, and a slight earthiness. Not much in the way of bitterness. Medium to rich body that coats the mouth. The carbonation is minimal and soft. The finish is medium with a sort of odd maltiness lingering. A fairly solid brew that makes for a decent winter treat. Still, I wouldn’t mind a little more int he flavor department.

12 oz. bottle to dimpled mug. Pours cloudy amber with thick, amber tinted head. Aromas of grain, malt and citrus. Nicely balanced mild sour hop taste with slightly sweet finish. A little thin, but other than that this is good beer.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Norm’s, 2/5/10

Aroma: Bread, herbal, honey, spice, toast, caramel, and light fruity/apple notes
Appearance: It pours a golden-orange color with a thin white head
Flavor: Taste is light sweetness, toasty and doughy flavor, mild bitterness too
Palate: Above average carbonation, light-medium body, and a decent drinkability
Overall Impression: This beer is fairly solid, a nice lager. It doesn’t have the huge spice presence of many of the winter seasonal offerings, but there is some spice there. Another solid beer from Starr Hill, I haven’t given all of their stuff high ratings, but their stuff is very solid and sessionable overall.

**Just submitted a photo for this one, as it was missing one.

12oz Bottle: Pours amber orange, a reasonable white head on top. Aroma is heavy with toffee, quite malty. It’s a smooth sip but with a sharp alcohol bite, grass, toffee and some bitter, floral hops. Better than I expected, nice.

This poured a gold color with a white head. Aroma was sticky sweet malts, some german hops, and toasted as well. Flavor was grassy hops, some odd sweetness that was lamost like corn sugar and some caramel toasted notes.

The aroma is slightly offensive with a sour vinegar like pungency. There is a bit of sweet malt and fruit but it’s hard to detect. The appearance is amber gold with a foamy head. The taste is hardly sour at all and is actually quite nice with an emphasis on malt and a touch of fruit. The palate is average. Overall it’s not the best smelling beer but it tastes alright.
