The Love is an unfiltered wheat beer, also known as a hefeweizen. It is distinguished by its extremely light body and flavored with hints of banana and clove. A slice of lemon can complement this refreshing brew.

Tried on tap from Starr Hill at GoFest. Pours a slightly hazy golden color. Head was full but dissipated quickly. It’s actually quite a nice hefeweizen from a local brewery. It’s missing some of the wheat flavor that would be expected from an excellent brew, but the traditional clove aroma and flavor is there as is the tartness on the finish.

Bottle. Pours a slight hazy yellow gold body with a one finger fizzy white head. The nose is estery and lightly spicy with some coriander and light yeast. The flavor is a bit bland, just minimal spice, some murky yeastiness, and just a bit of lingering coriander. Light bodied and a bit clingy with soft fizzy carbonation. Not a winner here, boring stuff.

12 oz bottle from mixed "Summer Tour" 12-pack dated best by 17 Dec. 2011 (from notes). Served in a pint glass. Newer label than shown on BA. Pours a hazy golden straw color with a small and short-lived off-white head. Lots of visible carbonation. Additional sediment in the bottom of the bottle added mid-tasting. S - rather typical weisbier aroma with yeast, citrus, ripe banana, a clove-like spiciness and, perhaps, a trace of hops. Not particularly inviting, but I find that true of many beers of this style. T - moderate strength for style. Yeast, grain, ripe banana and lemony citrus. Sour and sweet components with a clear tart balance. Good but quite citrusy aftertaste. M - medium-light body; nice carbonation level; a tad crisp; semi-dry finish. O - In sum, an above average weisbier, particularly in regards to mouthfeel. Good thirst quencher.

Pretty decent for a hefeweizen. Dark yellow color. Definite smell of bananas. Fruity taste. Nice mouthfeel. Balanced flavors.

Golden color, no head really, very small palate and smell. Almost fruity and goes down easily, good beer to drink a few of, not a lot.

On tap at lost dog it is a clear yellow color with a slight head. The aroma is malty with some citrus. The taste is banana and lemon and Cloves and the finish is definitely a candy banana

On draft at Lost Dog in McLean. Pours a clear gold with a white head. Aroma of cardamom. Flavors of banana. Short clean finish.

Poured from a bottle. Very little head, a small but noticeable amount of lacing, cloudy orange. Hay and banana aroma, wheaty with some citrus. Smooth finish. Not a fan of what beers anymore, but this was refreshing after a run.

A little underwhelming. Too much on the sour side without having much of the banana or pronounced yeast. Pours orange without much head or lacing. Bottle.

Transfer from BA review on 7-7-12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a hazy yellow golden color with a medium white head. The head faded very fast to give only a light amount of lacing. Smell – The aromas are heaviest of wheat and yeast. There are notes of pepper and banana as well as a very light citrus flavor. Taste – The taste starts out wheaty and a little on the sweeter side; the sweetness is of a citrus orange nature. The sweetness fades slightly over time as flavors of yeast start to work their way into the taste. A light peppery and banana flavor accompany the yeast and take the flavor to the end. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the average thickness with a carbonation level on the higher side of things. Both fitting, but rather average for the style. Overall – Not a bad brew and quite easy to drink. Well worth a try.

DATE REVIEWED: July 18, 2014... GLASSWARE: Weihenstaphaner weizen... OCCASION: beautiful camp day to a close...APPEARANCE: cloudy golden yellow body with generally large bubbles at the bottom of the glass; quickly flattening head--zero left behind, creating a bald brew... AROMA: banana and bubblegum--a yeast strain that is a bit clean for a hefe... some clove late... PALATE: crisp, reasonably medium-bodied; swift aftertaste; not really unfiltered... TASTE: yeasty banana, and yet not too flavorful; slightly acidic, but rather smooth overall, missing the rougher, more natural flavor profile of a hefe... OVERALL: refreshing on the deck at Friday 5 pm, yes--flavorful enough to distinguish itself or hold interest, no...enough to be a hefe, definitely not; the sampler hit on two of four (the IPA and pils) and struggles elsewhere...
