Starr Hill’s Whiter Shade of Pale marries two bold beer styles: the Belgian Wit and the IPA. Two row and wheat malt provide a soft base beer for intense fruity and spicy esters of the unique Belgian yeast strain while enhancing the strong hop aroma. Whiter Shade is a refreshing IPA to enjoy during the summer.

A very sessionable beer, aroma of hops, floral and citrus, with a hint of grain. Pours a hazy gold color with a lasting white head. Taste of hops and grain with a dry chalky feel and a mild chalk finish.

Crisp, slightly hazy golden coloured body with a thinnish just off-white head. Aroma of light wheat, grass, a touch of hops and some light citrus sweetness - not much going on. Medium-bodied; Strong wheat and floral flavours at first with a touch of coriander seed and a more metallic and piney taste than I’d expect with a surprisingly big malt flavour that doesn’t show the ’white’ portion much. Aftertaste shows some subtle hops with a little grassy and herbal quality, but mainly a malty and sweet finish. Overall, a decent White IPA at best, but this is more like a traditional IPA than I’d expect, and not a great one, as well. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Harris Teeter in Arlington (Pentagon Row), Virginia on 07-July-2014 for US$7,99 sampled at home in Washington on 19-August-2015 a few hours after returning from South Africa to get a taste of what I was missing being in Africa...but this disappointed a bit.

22oz bottle 4/10/15 (Sam’s Bottle Shop)-Pours a light golden with a small white head. Aroma of citrus, wheat, yeast, and hops. Taste of the same with a bit more wheat and hops. This medium bodied brew is well balanced and goes down real smooth.

Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. It poured a clear golden color with a white head. The aroma was of citrus, bread, and coriander. The taste was of wheat, yeast and more coriander. Decent.

Clear golden pour with ring of white head. Really solid fruity and spicy ipa. The hop bitterness only shows up on the finish. Very refreshing for an ipa though. StarrHill is definitely able to do hops right...

Cloudy yellow with a relatively thick white head. Aroma is light spice, noticeable coriander. Flavor is mildly hoppy with a bit of spice and some yeast. Flavorful but could use just a touch more hops to add a bit of a bite. Wife: 3.9
