Starr Hill’s Whiter Shade of Pale marries two bold beer styles: the Belgian Wit and the IPA. Two row and wheat malt provide a soft base beer for intense fruity and spicy esters of the unique Belgian yeast strain while enhancing the strong hop aroma. Whiter Shade is a refreshing IPA to enjoy during the summer.

Draft at Moriartys. Hazy pale amber pour with a larger fizzy/foamy white head. Very nice lace. Soft blonde wheat flavors with an interesting spicy hop kick. Juicy toast with clementine chilli marmalade. Lychee nuts. Snowflake rolls. Peppers. Only had a taster of this - but not nearly as bad as I feared.

This is really good, and easily the best Starr Hill beer I’ve had (even better than Double Platinum). Floral grapefruit nose, clean. Light golden pour from bottle, tons of sweet grapefruit on the tongue. Super crisp and enjoyable to drink. Bitter grapefruit finish. Some sweetness in the middle.

Pours a hazy, barely translucent golden with a thick, rather fine-bubbled ivory head. Wheaty aroma is a little stronger than most wits, with woody and slightly dusty hops dominating but letting through a few fruity notes. Flavor is quite hoppy like an IPA, with wheaty and citrus hints and a touch of yeast. Flavor is smooth, and fizz is not strong but persistent. An interesting blend that seems to capture the best of a wit with some strong points of an IPA.

Bottle. Initial pour with translucent gold with a short white head. Fruity and floral notes erupt from the carbonation and into the nose. Some yeast, soft malt and spices as well. Taste ups the spices a bit and continues along with more floral hops, yeast, soft malt, citrus, toasted wheat and light bready notes. Body is medium with a moderate, lively carbonation. Ends with more flowery notes, citrus zest, fruit, spice, wheat, sourdough bread, yeast and grains.

Candied violets, strong honeysuckle, lilly bouquet. Clear amber, medium head. Flavor features abundant honeysuckle notes and lilles, perhaps a bit of brett. Bitter finish of lillies. Wow! Belgian style IPA from Starr Hill? Floral, balanced, and wonderful!

Light amber with a large, foamy white head. Crisp and dry. Pepper, hops, wheat. Very dry though the finish. Quite different.
