Blond color. The aroma at first shows some corn, then some regular malt. Smooth mouthfeel; some malt flavor, not poor like mass Lagers, but not too interesting; correct bitterness.
Decent Lager.

Can, 5%. Clear golden colour. Very small stable white head. Grainy flavour. Slightly vinous with a faint hint of aroma hop.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2004 This is a pilsner like I'm a Sherpa. Bland, bland, bland. These guys only brew the one product, under the theory that if Creemore can do it, so can they. Difference being that Creemore is a flavourful, quality beer, while Steamwhistle is a cool bottle. Even on re-evaluation, this beer holds little appeal. The odd bit of maltiness, some unhappy English-tasting hops, no body.

Mild sweet aroma, mild flavor. Pils undertones below an easy sweet brew. Minimal bitter aftertaste. Definitely designed to appeal to the masses, and given how inoffensive it is, it probably does.

Bottle. Creamy white excellent mostly lasting head. Nice hoppy fruity aroma, hints of apple and lemon. Good flavor, moderate bitter finish. Oily palate. Very good premium lager.

On tap at Barrymore’s in Ottawa, Clear golden lager with a thin white head. Grainy malts in aroma. Good malt base, but with an off peppery hops and almost cherry like sour final...infected lager! Medium bodied. Reminded of a pseudo kriek I drank in Vancouver.

Bottle. Poured a golden color with a small sized white head. Aromas and tastes of corn, grainy, and some maltiness.

Bottled. The best before date on the bottle was illegible and I have my suspicions that it was out of date albeit it not by much. An orange beer with a short-lived quite decent white head. The aroma is a little funky amidst the grassy hops. The taste also has a little sour milk quality amidst a reasonably drinkable and mellow lager. A little bitterness but certainly no lager snatch. I walked through the brewery complex every day for a week whilst in Toronto but didn’t drink the beer once. Instead I found it in a shop in Covent Garden.

Sweet floral taste with dry astringent aftertaste. Would have enough rather than a national Canadian brand but rank is weak compared to other microbrewery peers.

I really can’t believe I haven’t rated this before since I drink loads of it once patio season hits. Pale straw coloured beer with a tight white head. The aroma has a very fresh, lean pilsner malt base with lots of herbal/spicy noble hop flavour as well. Fresh and balanced without being bland. I actually really like this stuff. Its great when the weather warms up, it’s always fresh and it’s easily available. Good stuff.
