Dark and brooding, full of body, just like King Richard III, a real regal pint.

Keg at Dog and Gun, Syston. Couldn’t quite work out what this was. Sweet, some bitterness, pretty well balanced. Lacks oomph. ESB on keg is an interesting move.

Cask conditioned handpump Parcel Yard Leicester 15/11/13. A dark brown coloured beer with a tight white head. A malty beer with notes of coffee. Old fashioned and totally malt driven. Barely any hop notes. Little flacour for its strength and served too cold.

Thanks to leaparsons for taking me to a small pub near the train station to start a crawl of the city. I chose this fairly run of the mill ESB. It was an inauspicious start to a great day of drinking and proves there is more to the English pub scene than boring mild ales.

Aroma / Appearance - The red velvet body is soft like melted candy. A thin tan head sits atop for a few seconds. Sweet cherries, walnuts, and a dusty texture share time with a malt profile.

Flavor / Palate - Cherries, coffee, and chocolate are filling and flat. It then turns fruity and sweet before a fast fading dry finish that has dusty edges. I would drink this again if I was ever in the area.

Cask @ parcel yard Leicester. Colour of a conker! Aroma of toffee and malts! Taste is light roasted grains, raisiny and toffee-y. Quite bitter compared to what I was expecting. It's alright you know. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Handpull, The Railway, Hinckley, 11/05/13. Pale chestnut capped with off white. Good syrupy toffee malt, red berry, black cherry aroma. Fruity rich with black cherry, toffee, roasted nut hints and hay-like hop. Pecan linger. Good but a pint is plenty.

Cask@The Parcel Yard, Leicester. Dark bronzy brown beer with a very strong off white head. The aroma is lightly malty with toffeeness. And the flavour is quite bitter with roasted and mellow toffeeness. Overall a nice strongly flavoured beer with roastedness and bitterness.
