Our Hefeweizen is a faithful version of the traditional Bavarian wheat beer. Hefe is the German word for 'yeast' and weizen means 'wheat'. This beer is made with 40% wheat malt and is brewed with a special yeast that tends to stay in suspension, giving the beer its cloudy appearance. Bavarians are so convinced of the healthful qualities of this yeasty brew that doctors there are known to prescribe two Hefeweizens a day to feeble patients. The yeast used for this brew also imparts its unique spicy, clovey flavour. Some people even detect a light banana flavour. All of these wacky flavours are the natural 'signature' left by this specific yeast strain during its fermentation of the beer and no additional spices are added.

Orangey-amber colour. Very cloudy. Very fruity, juicy aroma with lemon, spices, banana. Very malty flavour with subtle banana. Yeasty, wheaty finish. Quite a full body. This appears to be Steamworks’ signature style, so hopefully they’ll do more weizenbier.

Hazy golden colour with small white head. Lots of wheat and malt on the nose. Slightly sweet, with a banana touch complimented by wheat. Nice and thick palate.

Quiet spritzy, lemony, light bodied and dangerously drinkable…. So why the hell did they release it in Feburary?

Draught at the brewpub. Muddy pale orange. Aroma of jelly and banana. Sweetish with rounded mouthfeel and near citric bananaish yeast character. Short pleasantly dry finish. Very refreshing - a great hefeweizen!

Cask@Steamworks Brewery Brewpub, Vancouver. Cloudy golden beer with a yeasty and lemon peal aroma. The flavour is deeply dry, citric and mildly yeasty. Overall a nice german wheat beer.

I made a beer very similar to this one recently. Cloudy yellow beer with a very thin lace. Strong banana and clove aromas with light carbonation. Slightly yeasty and bready finish with some faint citrus flavours. Very refreshing.

Spicy clove nose with hints of bubblegum thrown in for good measure. A pretty solid German style hefe. A tad bit on the lighter side, but extremely refreshing when you have been walking around downtown Vancouver inthe hot summer heat, this hits the spot. Soft cereal malt background, with lovely spice that manages to stay in balance til the very end.

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a cloudy yellow-light orange color with a white head. Smelled of banana cream pie, clove, and yeasty bread dough. Light to medium bodied and delicately sweet with cereal grain, banana, and clove flavors.
