Sep 7, 2008 Bottle at GBBF08. Roasted and caramelly aroma. Clear amber colour, small white head. Good malty flavour with some caramel. Medium bitterness.

Aug 25, 2008 this is really a rustic amber lager! ... is smooth and quite a simple liquid ... is similar to an ale in a few ways ... is refreshingly different in the mouthfeel location ... pretty nice stuff but there is something about this brew ... a touch different but it does the job...

Aug 16, 2008 Tap. Poured a deep reddish-amber color with a thin off-white head. Faint aroma of light caramel, brown sugar, sweet malts, and light hops. Smooth, sweet malty with some light spice lead into a light fruitiness (light apple, apricot, orange) finishing with a light hoppiness and undertones of soft fruit. Smooth and easy drinking. Probably underrated due to the style, but I thought this was a pretty good beer.

Aug 7, 2008 22 oz bomber bottle. Pours a clear, rich, deep amber color with a frothy off white head that produces nice lacing. Aroma is sweet and caramel. You get a good sense of the malt in this thing by the nose. Flavor is heavy on the caramel and pretty sweet, basically just like the nose. Very full flavored and easy to drink. This is a nice beer for pairing with any kind of food or just slammin a few back. I could make this my go to beer very easily.

Aug 4, 2008 I’ve been a member of this group for several months but was never moved to rate a beer until I tried this one. It’s that bad. There is a market for good craft beer in a can. This isn’t it.

Jun 25, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pleasant but simple, malty aroma features caramel, peach, yellow plum, red apple, and grape scents with a modicum of dryness. Pours an effervescent, clear copper with a moderate amount of short lasting, fluffy, beige head. Caramel, fruit (especially apple), brown sugar, and brownies flavors. Light body. Soft, watery, and insubstantial in the palate. Steamworks Steam Engine Lager isn’t bad for what it is, but what it is isn’t exactly going to blow anybody away.

Jun 16, 2008 Clear amber with a frothy 2" head that lingers. Nice caramel malty sweet aroma with a whiff of spicy hops. Smooth medium body. Taste mirrors aroma with caramel malts and a lightly bitter spicy hop finish. Not too bad.
