4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask, gravity at Merton Winter Beer Festival 06-01-10 Pours very dark brown in colour. Initially this is smooth in the mouth but then a real crushing roasty bitterness takes over, lovely dark bitter cocoa powder, in fact some of them bitter chocolate covered coffee beans but not lasting so long and this tends to make way for a wonderful dryness at the end but the hook is a nice green fresh hoppiness to finish. The best yet from Steel City, very good stuff. A6 A4 F6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Fruit and hop aromas. Dark coloured strong in alcohol a little rich on the palate and hoppy with a hint of dryness in a bitter roast finish.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A complex stout with lots of intense flavours. Hopefully will appear at more beer festivals and other events. A reminder of Dark Star Espreso Stout. Similar complex blend. This for me is like cold coffee with a caramel shot and with a lot of nuts and chocolate thrown in. A very dry finish which is a little too much for me. The Maris Otter combined well with the oats and the chcolate and the bitter nutty taste. The chocolate and coffee were prominent on the nose and this should make an ideal early morning ale. Not a huge fan of dry beers but I enjoyed this. Consumed on Friday at Merton beer festival.

Cask conditioned at Merton Winter Beer Fest 2010. Black with tan head. Quite an intensely dry and bitter stout, I get charcoal dryness with a bitter chocolate note, late late hops with a leafy, peppery character. Really enjoyable.
