Can thanks to Andrew. Pours a clear yellow with a medium head. Smells of chemicals and dishwasher water. Flavors of water, semi-sweet corn, and diluted chemicals.

7/13/13. 24oz can thanks to randomgarbage and deyholla! Clear golden pour with a small offwhite head. Metallic, corn, caramel, etc. Better than the OE because it’s not skunky, but that’s about it.

Can courtesy of Dave. Thanks! Golden pour with a white head. Kind of a pool water aroma. Chlorine, water, corn, and some malt sweetness. A touch of banana and apple. There is a light sweetness to the flavor of corn, apple, and banana. Chlorine, water, and some grass, too.

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2013 24oz can of label claimed "High Gravity Lager" whatever that means at 4% ABV (and 3.2% ABW). It makes me wonder what the Normal Gravity Lager must be like. This pours with a clear deep golden body that supported an initially tall white head. The aroma offers up corn sweetness, mild sweet apple fruity esters and then plain old vague sugary sweetness. The taste has a bit of prickly carbonation pushing up a faint lemon note right from the start. But mostly this has modestly sweet notes of apples, pears, corn and some grainy malts. This lacks the boozy chemical harshness that defines the style in my opinion.

24 oz can to pint (shared with the Mrs.; HUGE thanks to browland for this .RAHR tick). Looks fine; a transparent gold with white head. Smells doughy and a little skunky. Tastes like it smells with a touch of metal on the palate. Not good, but better than I expected.

24oz can thanks to womencantsail. I thought this was 3.2%, maybe I was wrong. Anyway, the can does not have the abv on it, but after a taste it is clear that this is not the normal Steel Reserve. After a clear, yellow soda pour with fizzing out foam (actually a fairly healthy pour for style), the nose brings freshly cleaned public toilet, mild urine remaining. Taste is "dirty pool water" says my wife. Palate is similar to La Croix seltzer water in a can, yes the type of canned water that got a girl arrested by the ABC police in Virginia thinking she was buying beer underage. Merica.

Gold pour with a big white head. Muted grape aroma, some dusty old hops, and a bit of grass. Flavor is really similar, a bit chemically really but nothing crazy. Just sort of muted and watery, a touch metallic. Oh well, still drank pretty good.

No sure that I should say thanks to Douglass88 for sending this 24oz can to me but then again how often do you get to try a 4% malt liquor? Also there is a listing on the can of "3.2% Maximum" which I assume is the ABV...not sure though. This deserved to be shotgunned however I settled for drinking it out of the can...the dregs seemed to be a pale yellow and I will give it the benefit of the doubt that it didn’t look too bad coming out of the can and into a glass. Unfortunately the stale caramel, dirty sock and grainy odour were not that pleasant; however the over carbonation and mild body did help this one go down quickly, if not smoothly, and the final taste on the palate wasn’t horrible. I have had much worse beer that tries to be good.

24oz can from the local grocery store
Appearance: Clear straw golden with a small white head that dissipates quickly, no head
Aroma: Light malts, corn and honey
Taste: Malts, corn, bready, and citrus
I tasted this and the 8.1 version side by side (both in shaker glasses). This version was much smoother and easier to drink, thin. But, that’s not what malt liquor is for I guess.
