COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The two eleven mark, based on the medieval symbol for steel, appears only on Steel Reserve(R) High Gravity lager. We use nearly twice the ingredients of many normal lagers & brew for over twice as long as many quality beers.

Letís be honest: nobody is drinking Steel Reserve for the taste. These guys find their way into my beer stash every once and a while and, frankly speaking, I am looking for the buzz that accompanies my $1.29 purchase. That being said, and having tried quite a few malt liquors in my time, this really isnít that terrible. It provides a quick buzz and, if drank ice cold (and I mean cold, because if it gets warm it tastes terrible), itís actually quite drinkable. It looks half-decent when poured out of the can (but whats the point of that?) and smells like sweet corn. Not overly repulsive but certainly not a treat on the nose. Donít pick this up if you are any kind of beer snob because this is not for you. I like beer: I like all styles, all varieties, and that includes malt liquor. When money is tight or if Iím just in the mood for something proven and quick, Iíll go for this. Overall I gave this a 14/20 - this reflects itís style, not beer in general. It doesnít stack up to some of the better microbrews out there, but then again I donít expect it to. Drink cold and enjoy the ride.

24oz can by DEC3013. Nose barely there, a little grain, pours deep amber-leaning but still clear golden with a foamy large white head, light carb. Wow, lacing! And a lot of it (and legs!)! Taste is very sweet, faint floral and grain, bread, but a candyish fruit element creeping around and eroding the edges of my teeth. Light body a tick thicker than most watery malt likkas, smooth and surprisingly not fizzy. Alcohol hidden extremely well, as would be expected, but some of that is due to the cloy. Plus points for taking an untrodden path as far as this style goes, but the candyish sweetness is too much for me to pound, and even these modest trappings of sophistication are not enough to ward off the anticipated headache. I knew this couldnít be from the íburgh.

Rating this as a malt likka, it really isnít too bad. Can 24oz. Pours a clear orangish-yellow color with white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is pretty faint, but at least not offensive. A bit of warming alcohol in the flavor but masked well by the slight sweetness - wouldnt guess this bad boy is 8.1%. For $2.11 for the 211...you canít go wrong.

Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, alcohol, grain and floral. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long warm finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Can, 24oz. A clear, pale golden beer with a two-finger white head. The aroma is rather weak, a faint fruity and malty scent escapes the glass. Weak flavor too, not much bitterness to be detected, but thereís some warming alcohol. Fruity notes too. Medium body, slightly warming, low on carbonation. Short, warming finish. Definitely not a beer Iíd go a long way to have again. 130811

Part of a blind taste test. Tied with Olde English 800 for worst brew Iíve ever gagged on. Forget that itís a malt liquor, no need to split hairs this low to the ground. What Iím trying to do is warn you. Poured pleasant, bright golden yellow. Smelled malty with a bit of hoppiness. Then I tasted it. HORRIBLE. Chemical bitterness like rubbing alcohol and barf-inducing malt & corn-syrup sweetness that made me feel like Iíd been power-punched in the face with my own hand. Instant headache. Never again.
