2.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Let’s be honest: nobody is drinking Steel Reserve for the taste. These guys find their way into my beer stash every once and a while and, frankly speaking, I am looking for the buzz that accompanies my $1.29 purchase.
That being said, and having tried quite a few malt liquors in my time, this really isn’t that terrible. It provides a quick buzz and, if drank ice cold (and I mean cold, because if it gets warm it tastes terrible), it’s actually quite drinkable. It looks half-decent when poured out of the can (but whats the point of that?) and smells like sweet corn. Not overly repulsive but certainly not a treat on the nose.
Don’t pick this up if you are any kind of beer snob because this is not for you. I like beer: I like all styles, all varieties, and that includes malt liquor. When money is tight or if I’m just in the mood for something proven and quick, I’ll go for this. Overall I gave this a 14/20 - this reflects it’s style, not beer in general. It doesn’t stack up to some of the better microbrews out there, but then again I don’t expect it to.
Drink cold and enjoy the ride.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pet bottle (40 oz) bought @ Cambridge Wine & Spirits and shared by Minderbinder, thanks! Hotel Room Tasting post EBF, enjoyed in a brown paper bag.
Appearance: Hard to see through the brown paper bag, but it looks clear pale golden with a small white head.
Aroma: Massive grainy and herbal presence well balanced by a not less massive metallic presence (steel?), corn starch, banana, booze and rotten fruits.
Taste: Sweet boozy corn soup with herbal features, metallic notes and rotten fruits.
Palate: Medium body. Light carbonation. Herbal and sweet finish. Warming presence is higher that you would expect from an 8.1% abv beer.
Overall: Not that bad, I would take this over most Triple IPA.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
drank out of the paper bag - nah, from the PET bottle. toasted grains, light caramel, few bananas and other phenols, surprisingly lagering fruity notes, bland herbal-grassy notes. average carbonation - not too prickly; light body - oily; semi-sweet caramel grassy finish. not too bad.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: MAR 23, 2015 Pours a clear golden with a small white head that seems to leave good lacing in the PET bottle. Nose is of cereals, pilsner malt for sure, raisin. Taste is lightly sweet and alcoholic. Not too much grape drank, just cereals. Body is medium, carbonation is medium too. Overall a cheaply made malt liquor, not something I would go back to. It was still funny to pop that bottle with people after an extreme day at Extreme Beer Fest.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Served from 22 oz can into pint glass.
Appearance: pours a 1+" white head. Color is yellow-golden with plenty of streaming carbonation.
Aroma: corn husks, with toasted barley and slight citrus in the background.
Mouthfeel: heavy with a mostly dry finish and warming alcohol in the throat.
Flavor: bold but nicely balanced between corn sweetness, rich barley, and enough hops to keep it from being cloying.
Overall: first time ever having a malt liquor, I was pleasantly surprised. Not something I would buy regularly, but nothing offensive either.

2.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours nicely with a thin head that disappears quickly. It's light in color, and has no particularly strong aroma. It has a sweet, malty taste. Overall it's very drinkable and very good value for money.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Served out of a paper bag into my Duvel glass. Clear yellow pour with a white head. Aroma is cereal grains, sweetness, grass. Taste is not bad really. Cereal grain, sweet malt, smooth. Not bad for a malt liquor. OK lacing.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Can shared during the first Late Nite session of RBWG 2015. Pours totally clear gold with a bubbly white head. Nice grainy pale bread aroma. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with simple, sugary white bread, pale grains, no hops. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, more cereal grain sugars, white sugar, basic bread. Quality malt liquor. Drinks well below its weight.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Can @ RBWG hotel share. Deep gold with a big white head. Attractive stuff. Nose is candy corn, white bread, booze. Taste isn’t overly skunky or boozy, so that’s nice. More candy and bread. Apple sauce. Medium body, active carb.

0.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20
Can. Pours nicely, I have to say, and looks clear and golden with a moderate white head on there. Nose smells like corn and gym socks and should not be considered beer. Tastes sickly sweet and would make for a really sticky spill. Bleh.
