650 ml bottle courtesy of kbutler. Thanks. Pours a black-brown color with a small tan head that has good retention. The aroma is mild and features raisins, burnt grains, mocha and musty soil. The flavor is much more complex than the nose; I get dark fruits, burnt toast, chestnuts, bitter walnuts, dark chocolate, a bit of spice and earthy hops. The palate is full, smooth and viscous with soft carbonation. Finishes medium in duration and dry with lingering spice. Overall: The complete lack of any sweetness is a welcome change. Very tasty ale, much enjoyed.

Black with a decent brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, oat, coffee. Taste is coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, oats...smooth.

Bottle. The look is dark, black in color, nice tan colored head. The smell is roast, chocolate, coffee, malts, and hops. The taste is roast, coffee, malt, coffee, chocolate, and good.

From tap at Republic. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty and light liqourice. Thick malty, dark roasted and liqourice. Light tarish. Dark roasted and bitter finish.

Tap at brewery. Pours a creamy black. Aroma and taste are roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Definitely a nice stout.

Bottle from Skyview. Dark brown with a thin tan crown. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and some coffee. Taste in line with aroma with heavy roasted notes.

Dark beer flavors with a smooth finish. Maybe a little watery. Not as strong on the palate as other dark beers

UPDATED: APR 5, 2013 There are many stouts I would pick over this one, although many I wouldn’t. I wish it were maybe a little more boozy/thick when drinking it. Overall flavor is pleasant with chocolate notes.
