4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Syrupy black pour that shines ruby around the edges and retains a mocha like foam. A heavy, detailed aroma; at times, bright and fruity, and at others dark and intense. Richly spicy and earthy with coffee, cinnamon and gingerbread; lots of candied and overripe red fruits. Slow to emerge, composed, and made interesting by its abundance of yeast and hop presence.
Strongly vinous flavor; cherries, raspberries and figs work with a big, bright citrus hop note that really stands out. There’s plenty of velvety dark malt laying calmly beneath.
Medium, fairly effervescent texture; easy to drink. A lot unfolds at the finish; rich raisiny cavendish tones give way to an awesomely meaty, smokey roast flavor, long after swallowing. A winningly unusual take.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour is black as night. Thanks to the Mill Town Mashers for this by the way!
Smell is coffee, cocoa, burnt toast, and loads of malt. Taste is bready and toasty, with a surprisingly strong oat presence. A lingering bitterness akin to baking chocolate rounds out the finish. Very good.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottles thanks to portableparty. Deep black with soft mocha head. Great roast aroma with hints of bakers chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit. Ultra smooth roasted malt and coffee that ends just slightly acidic and with mild dark fruit. Velvety and delicious. Lingering bitter chocolate roast.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
It seemed like more of a brown ale, a very good brown ale. Fresh and well hopped for the style. Well roasted but not burnt, and a very good palate. Sampled on draft, at the brewery.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle from Atom via Free Beer Week, thanks Adam! Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is smooth dark chocolates and roasts with some molasses, a bit of a milky chocolate sweetness, and a light anise. Flavor is roasty and smooth up front with a nice dark chocolate and slight milk chocolate sweetness. A bit of a molasses sweetness and a touch of dark fruits before the roasts become somewhat ashy and this finishes pretty dry with a light bitterness, but balanced enough with some chocolates offering a medium-light sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a solid stout. Big roasts that get pretty ashy and dry, but a nice chocolate and slight molasses sweetness to keep things balanced. Enjoyable.
