Bold and complex from a tremendous amount of roasted malts, yet smooth and rich from the addition of oats. Dissent has its own opinion of what a dark beer should be.

Tap at the brewery. Very dark pour with a beautiful reddish brown head. Great aroma of roasted malts and molasses. Taste is rich roasted oats, slight sweetness, and a bit of hop kick. Terrific.

22 oz. bottle shared by b3shine. Pours black with a medium sized khaki colored head. The aroma is roasted malts, chocolate with a hint of oatmeal sweetness. The flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, very mild dark fruits with more mild oatmeal sweetness. Pretty decent straight forward stout.

Bottle thanks to Rob. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong roast, coffee bean, oak. Medium mouthfeel with roast, coffee, dark chocolate. Good.

Bomber. Pours a wonderful jet black color with a large light brown creamy head. A great nose of metal, dark fruit, heavy roast. Oats make this very creamy and full, big dark chocolate, some lactose, the roast is pretty heft, metallic lingering licorice and bitter hop notes. Lovely beer. Yeah, 7% big old stout is my kind of beer.

Courtesy of hellbilly. Pours deep and dark with nice looking mocha like head. The light aroma offers up earthy notes, some dark roasted malts and a touch of chocolate. The taste is pretty rich with dark roasted malts and some chocolate that roll headlong into some spicy and earthy hops. The earthy hops seem to give a sense of oxidation that may detract from the experience, but not for me.

Bomber to snifter (thanks kbutler1). Looks good; black with tan lacing. Smells malty and a little roasty. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Solid beer.

Thanks to Bob for the bomber. Poured deep brown with a dense, well-retained khaki head. The aroma picked up sweet milk chocolates and rolled oats, with fresh earthy accents.. sweet overall, and very pleasant to smell. The flavor found sweet and a little darker chocolate at the core, with plenty of ashy, well-roasted black malts too.. a touch of fruit joined sweet chocolate, oats, and roasty black malt on the long, dry, tasty finish. Medium-bodied, well-carbonated, and silky on the palate.. loved the lingering roast and bitterness.. great brew!

Keg @ Happy Gnome. Brown with a small head. Nose of burnt brown sugar, cream, roasted nuts. Ash. Nice and full. Taste is wonderfully creamy, substantial. Lactose, rocky road fudge. Slightly peppery hops. Some burnt espresso. Medium body, supple and a bit oily. Wow. Credit where itís due. Very nice.

Draft at the brewery. The aroma is of coffee and dark roast. Of course, this is a dark-colored beer. This all carries to the drink. Pure coffee, mostly, and quite yummy. Pass the sugar. (#5657, 8/28/2014)

In short: A dirty stout with a bit of many things that donít all work together.
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed a few months after receiving it from oakbluff, thanks a lot Scott.
The look: Very dark brown (near black) body topped by a small tan head.
In long: Low-intensity nose of roasted chestnuts, mocha chocolate bar and earthy notes. Body size is medium, texture is a bit juicy/oily for the style, medium carbonation. Taste is a bit strange. Basic elements of roast, mocha coffee, roasted chestnuts chocolate and others clash with a weird acidity and also a strong sensation of dirt/earth that turns into dirty tobacco in the finish. That beer really feels dirty-earthy. Alcohol is more apparent than it should be in a 7% beer. Not an offensive beer but not something I need to drink again. The lamest Dissent since wearing socks of different colors to show solidarity against racial discrimination.
