Bold and complex from a tremendous amount of roasted malts, yet smooth and rich from the addition of oats. Dissent has its own opinion of what a dark beer should be.

Bottle thanks to Kyle. Pours a black color minimal head. Nose is gritty with some milk sweetness. Taste is similar with a kind dissenting finish.

Growler from kbutler1. Huge thanks Kevin! Pours black with a half finger of thick tan head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate with huge Roasty notes and a decent bit of dark fruit. Taste is light bitter and follows aroma. Loads of coffee and chocolate. Full bodied with a thick creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, awesome. I could drink this everyday.

Extra in a recent trade, forget who though....thanks though. Pours out, well almost black with a small tan head. Aroma is of roast, some chocolate, coffee and light hoppy notes. Taste is cocoa, dark chocolately malts, light licorice and some mild bitterness in there. Smooth and nice drinking stout.

Draft at republic, Mnpls. Rich, sweet, milk chocolate aroma that is somewhat faint. Fully opaque body with light brown head. Sheet lace...lovely. Creamy engine oil consistency. Really nice. Smooth, rich. Outstanding brew.

Bottle to snifter. Pours dark brown black with a tight soapy tan head that fades to a collar ( pour looks like many Imperials). Aroma is big roasted malt with coffee and chocolate soy scents. Taste is roasted malt and coffee with a milky bitter chocolate and some rye bread and soy. Palate is full and bitter with a slick chaulky dry finish. Pretty awesome stout! Really gets me excited for Imperial versions!

650 ml bottle courtesy of kbutler. Thanks. Pours a black-brown color with a small tan head that has good retention. The aroma is mild and features raisins, burnt grains, mocha and musty soil. The flavor is much more complex than the nose; I get dark fruits, burnt toast, chestnuts, bitter walnuts, dark chocolate, a bit of spice and earthy hops. The palate is full, smooth and viscous with soft carbonation. Finishes medium in duration and dry with lingering spice. Overall: The complete lack of any sweetness is a welcome change. Very tasty ale, much enjoyed.
