3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown pour. Not knowing what style of beer this was before drinking, I thought it might resemble a dunkel, a very good one at that. Some smokiness in the flavor, sweet caramel and oatmeal. Incredible mouthfeel. A nice start to my journey with Steel Toe beers.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark beer with a sticky, foamy brown head. Rich nose of dark toast and coffee. Big sweet molasses and brown sugar flavors. Coffee and milk chocolate, burnt toast and a green hop bitterness. This is a tasty, big stout.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark black. Roasted, almost charred, but not smokey. DeScription on bottle is spot on: smooth and rich (but not heavy). Nice stout. Thanks Jackl!

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wonderfully smooth stout. Creamy medium brown head. Despite the higher alcohol content (7%), this one was so easy on the palate. You really don’t taste the alcohol.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pint pour. Thick, dark, decent head. Listed on the menu as "stout-like"; it’s pure stout. And a good one.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber. Pours a wonderful jet black color with a large light brown creamy head. A great nose of metal, dark fruit, heavy roast. Oats make this very creamy and full, big dark chocolate, some lactose, the roast is pretty heft, metallic lingering licorice and bitter hop notes. Lovely beer. Yeah, 7% big old stout is my kind of beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at the brewery in Minneapolis. Black color with substantial lacing. Chocolate and coffee aroma but not too overpowering. Subtle chocolate and coffee flavor that doesn't overwhelm. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Smooth finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle
A solid and affordable release puts Steel Toe squarely on my radar for future visits to the Minneapolis area. Better examples may exist but few blend its balance of flavor with a price point that doesn’t stretch the budget. If you are in the area give at least one of their drafts / bottles a shot.
Aroma / Appearance - A fluid ebony black base seeps from the bottle into the bottom of the glass like molten char. Mocha head dances on top along with slick legs. Chocolate, roast coffee, dry malts, and sweet hazel shimmer in the air as they balance a light roasted texture against the bitterness of fresh hops.
Flavor / Palate - Black coffee with a splash of skim milk immediately singes the tongue with a tease of malts. Bittersweet dark chocolate unfolds over the course of subsequent sips. A refreshing dry finish leaves traces of wood and hops. The total package drinks easily for a 7% ABV release with only a handful of small things keeping it from being truly world class.
