Aroma is a nice pine and chocolate scent. Taste is hop forward pine, citrus, grapefruit, then there is some great malt chocolate, caramel, super balanced malt. Very good black ipa. I love steel toe!!

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2014 Pours a very dark, reddish-copper with minimal head. Aroma of roasted grains and hops. Flavor is dominated by the toasted grain, with strong hop undertones. This is a very nice (and very fresh) version of the black IPA.

God this is awesome. Just a solidly balanced beer. Nice black IPA! Not many are great. This hits malt, hops, aromatics and amazing taste!

Bomber. Pour is very dark brown, thin mocha head. Aroma is hoppy pine and dark roasted malt, some sweetness. Taste is big pine and lemon hops, dark roasted, but not black IPA levels, caramel malt, toffee, earthiness.

Majority portion of 22 oz. bottle, consumed on 12-13-13. Pours dark mahogany with a moderate amount of long-lasting, uneven, taupe head. Produces thick lacing. Appetizing appearance. Clean, yeasty, mineral-y, dry smell. Roasted malts in the aroma. Flavor of dark chocolate brownie with a dry, hoppy finish. Caramel, vegetal taste. Medium body. Soft in the palate. Mmm, this is really good! It deserves the 4 I am giving it.

Chocolate, deep sienna brown pour. Grapefruit, mint coolant plus powdered chocolate aroma; balanced and reserved. Pungent herb and gamey roast combination. A subtle, low-lying dankness. All the desirable qualities are present in measured amounts, rather than in force.

Similarly, the flavor is layered, but clean and calm. Cherry, clementine, and grapefruit are dusted gently in brown sugar and earthy chocolate malt. Comfortable, mingling, confident. Pine and ash provide a grayish, misty forest framing.

Crisp and airy palate, shielding the alcohol in its evergreen cloud. Punch of citrus mid palate precedes the gentle, bittersweet and long finish. Like so many of Jason’s beers, this is a wonderfully understated, elegant example of an often noisy, forceful style.

Tap; pours nearly black with a tan head; aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, and pine; taste is bitter chocolate and then hops; has a dry bitter finish; good black IPA

Tap at Steel Toe. Dark murky amber pour with a frothy light beige head. Big roasted malts and citrus hops on the aroma. Full palate. Bold hops in the taste but still a pretty easy drinker. Great full-flavored brew.

Another well crafted by Jason at Steel Toe. Big pine on the nose. Dark brown pour with an off-white head. Some lacing here. Malt quickly gives way to pine hops and some nice bitterness on the finish. Excellent!
