3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
June 29, 2012 bottle via trade with Jeff. Brownish orange pour with minimal head. Aroma was piney hops, caramel and alcohol. Taste starts out caramel and then hits you with the piney hops. Medium bodied, little carbonation and aftertaste was not good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to Bob for the 750mL bottle! Poured fiery reddish-orange with a creamy, well-retained beige head.. some lacing followed it down. The aroma picked up resiny orange, grapefruit, and peppery hops plus a little too much warm boozage over caramel and fruity notes.. came together well, and seemed somewhere between IIPA and barley wine. The flavor found warm fruits, caramel, and biscuity maltage at the core, with grapefruit, spicy pine, and earthy bitterness around.. alcohol amplified everything, and really warmed the throat and belly in the end.. like the nose, it was hot, but still good. Heavier-bodied with low-moderate, rolling carbonation on the palate.. big and spicy.. this was good, and could be interesting with more age on it.

Thanks to Pawola22 for sending me this bottle.
The beer pours an orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is full of pine and orange notes, with a little bit of resin and some biscuit malt. The flavor is similar, being dominated by pine and resin notes from the hops. There is also some biscuit and toffee, as well as a medium amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
My first Steel Toe beer, and it drank pretty good. Clearly a double ipa, with sweet malt and lots of hops, and a somewhat thick palate. Citrus hop character, and sweet malt. It might be hard to drink a 750ml of this, but it is a good beer.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from trade with Atom as an extra. Aroma was the best part of this beer with nice tropical notes and some citrus. Flavor starts with these, but they die off and bitter rather quickly. Nice bit of carbonation, but the palate ends up being mild bitterness on the tongue. Pretty good drinking DIPA. Nice beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice looking beer. A little darker reddish color that I wasn’t expecting. Alcohol sticks to the glass. Taste is really hop heavy and I can detect that melon flavor others have talked about. I can also taste the alcohol. Nice beer, good aroma, a little floral and sticky.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Big thanks to dougofthefuture for sending a bottle of this out my way. Served in a SAVOR wine glass.
Pours a moderate orange-caramel color with a good white head and some ringy lacing on the way down. The nose carries plenty of tropical-fruit notes on top of some semi-sweet malt. The flavor has those same tropical notes, but the malt sweetness comes through a bit more and overwhelms some of the hop notes. In a beer this big I don’t mind some malt, but there was a bit too much, and the sweetness to bitterness ratio was a bit too much in favor of the former.
