3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
November 16, 2012 bottle shared by Brandon. Clear light brown with some red in the pour. Alcohol and sweet malt in the aroma and the taste is pretty much the same. After a full night of drinking and this is still tough to drink. This needs some time to sit for sure, eesh this was tough to drink. Four people shared this and nobody could finish it.

bomber from winter secret summer. what is diff in scotch ale vs. Scottish ale? this definitely has some alcohol/scotch characteristics mostly in the taste. caramel toffee and quick to the alcohol. quality, but the aftertaste lowers this for me.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Fairly transparent, mahogany appearance. Mild aroma that is both malt-heavy and rather plain. Peat, rock candy and black fig characterize its quiet, foggy sweetness. Comfortable malt balance with soft, warming alcohol in the flavor. Prickly carbonation can partner with this to create a dark spice silhouette. Red apple, leather, and molasses can be found beneath layers of basic dark sugar and booze; stylistically true in heaviness and simplistic sensory limitations.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(bottle) Pours a deep red color with no head to speak of. Normally beers default to a 4 in appearance if there’s some semblance of a head, but since there is none, it’s awarded a 3. The aroma’s pretty hard to pin down. There’s a dark fruit component that’s reminiscent of cherry or plum, but the rest of the scent is rather nebulous. It’s not bad nor good, it’s just present in an indefinable state that leaves me quite vexed. Ok, maybe there’s a hint of kipper snacks and maybe some Assam tea, but I think the color of the beer may be screwing with my nostrils on that latter aromatic descriptor, since the beer’s color (along with the lack of head) could easily fool someone into thinking I were imbibing on a pint of tea rather than a pint of ale. The flavor possesses more discernible qualities than the aroma, with aspects of toffee, cherry (artificial though), port, toast, stale graham cracker, and a faint smack of astringency again reminiscent of the aforementioned Assam. Little booze sting as well. Mouthfeel is fairly full and carb is a touch on the high side. Overall this is a decent beer, even though the aroma was largely devoid of any character.
