JesseM (365), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 5, 2008 Updated: Jun 29, 2008710ml "Tub" can from the brewers retail. Probably the last can of this stuff in existence, or at least the last one ever to be seen in my area. I figured I needed to experience the horror of the old Steelback in order to truly be an Ontario beer geek. Pours a slightly deeper gold than usual, with a huge white, rocky head. It’s a surprisingly nice looking beer. Weird alcoholic fuel type aroma, a touch of sour funk (I really don’t know how old this can may be). Flavour is actually a touch malty, with more of the weird fuel aspects, but defined by the weird sourness. There’s some fruitness and malts struggling to not drown in there. It’s actually not completely aweful, in that I can drink this, but in no way does that make it any good. I sad relic of days gone by, which I am actually glad to have been able to experience. RIP, and good riddence. I am no longer a Steelback virign. fredthecat (31), Canada Mar 19, 2008 maybe the most premium steelback product, tastes best in summertime, a really sour bitter taste that is best really cold. its good to get one of these to start with then drink steelback thunder or colt 45 goldtwins (3731), Nesconset, New York, USA Mar 10, 2008 I feel dirty for entering a rating for a 0 percentile beer. Maybe if it was over 10%. Poured a slightly hazed (isn’t this a lager?) gold with a white head. The aroma was of dry mild caramel and a pencil. Not as sweet as I had expected. Grainy cereal flavor. Semi-dry with a light body. Immy (1555), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Mar 4, 2008 710ml can from HogTownHarry - thanks! Clear dark gold with an off white head. Well carbonated. Looks pretty nice. Weird, sweet, grainy corny, perfumey and chemical scents. Ugh. Weak ass flavors, which is a blessing, because the taste is raunchy. Fake tasting honey sweetness, corny and funky ass. Barely drinkable. JoeMcPhee (3692), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Mar 3, 2008 Amber pour... aroma of adjuncty pale malt. Lightly corny and watery. A little bit honeyish, but that’s stretching it. No hops, no real character at all.
