0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
Where should I start? I haven’t had much Steelback lately so there was the question of whether their beer is as bad as its reputation and also if they’ve raised their game. Oh hell no they haven’t. First, the can was only 3/4 full. No shit. Pretty much exemplifies the professionalism of Steelback right there. Dull tan Zhigulyovskoe colour. No carbonation, suffice to say. Excruciating garbage and apple aroma is so bad I can’t bury my nose in it for further analysis. There’s more off-aromas there I’m sure but I’m not going in to find out. Dead flat body. The flavour is not recognizeable as beer it is so full of garbage, and miscellaneous chemicals. Presently the 34th worst beer in the world on Ratebeer and easily one of the most overrated as a result. This is one of the five worst beers I’ve ever had.

Can shared by puzzl. Aroma is pretty non-offensive. Light pale malt. Straw and a bit of corn. In general it’s pretty clean and refreshing. Non-descript, but non-poor. It’s almost a shame that steelback has risen to mediocrity from their former place in the basement of crapitude

Pale lagerish looking, lots of foam. Acceptable aroma, taste is not quite metallic, but the mouthfeel is there.On-tap at the Yorkville Club Uptown Second Anniverary, served by the dancng model in a portable server system.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
UPDATED: AUG 11, 2008 2008-08-04. Pale yellow, small quick white head. Aroma and flavour of cheap white wine, not unlike some of the higher octane Labatt’s products actually. Rough thin grains, dilute and watery. Poor. Why have I had this three times let alone rated it three times? 4/2+/3/2/6 - 1.8 New batch of bottles courtesy of GregClow.
TFOB 2007. Draft. Yellow body, foamy white head. Sweetish aroma, with an odd yeastiness to it that is not particularly pleasant. Rough washed out grains in the flavour with hardly any hops or anything in the way of positive bitterness. Average to thin palate. Poor. 3/3/3/2/7 - 1.8
"The honey brown is aaaaawesooome!" - Drunk Guy emerging from the Bowmans poker area.
August 2004. Golden yellow, thin film of a head. No aroma to speak of, maybe a bit of hops. Flavour is a bit strange but not really that bad, just kind of boring. Palate is predictably light, but I didn’t really notice much of a difference between this and the Steelback Chain. 2/3/4/2/8 - 1.9

UPDATED: APR 19, 2006 Can (big honkin’ 710ml tub of swill). So I spend 2 hours scrubbing the tables and muskoka chairs on my amazing-view balcony - it’s sunny, warm, the ballgame is on, the rollerbladers are wearing very little - so I decide to make this crap my first balcony beer of the new year - I’m sure it will be awesome. Opened with a faint "gitsch", poured an unhealthy odd gold-ish, with no head, no matter how hard I tried. Smells like bread dough and fake fruit - sweet, nasty and oily. Taste - o GOD this is vile - it’s resiny, oily (like motor oil, not nut oil), harsh - I’ve had impy stouts less ... oh, forget it - it’s flat, watery, harshly chemical, leaves a rancid aftertaste. *Sigh* - only 7 more Steelbacks to go.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Frickin’ huge can (700ml!) courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a pale yellow with a huge honkin’ fluffy white head. This head’s too huge and it won’t go away. Aroma’s sugary sweet along with grain, light caramel malt and perfume. Mild, watery flavour, hard to gauge what’s there when you hardly taste anything -- I’m not getting the chemical or rancid-like flavours that others got, it’s just incredibly dull. Light bodied, highly carbonated. I’ve heard Steelback beer has improved lately and I believe it as this is not as offensive as most of the older ratings for this say it is. Still, no one will miss it.

(Rating #590)

UPDATED: AUG 14, 2008 [501-20070810] Tap @ TFOB (Toronto, ON). Light wheat aroma characteristics. Clear, light yellow body with a medium-lasting bubbly white head. More light wheat in the flavour, some floral. Light-medium body is bubbly on the tongue. Certainly not impressive but not offensive either. (4/2/4/2/7) 1.9
[1571B-20080804] 341mL bottle. Beery yeast grains aroma. Clear, light yellow orange body with quick foamy white bubbles. Beery yeast continues in the flavour with mostly corn grain. Light-medium body. Mildly offensive. (4/2/3/2/7) 1.8
