hophead_hans (555), Bay Area, California, USA Mar 21, 2008 Tap in Burlingame. Nice red color. Nice aromas of predominant malt and some caramel. Flavors have caramel, but also some hops and bitter fruit that give it a bit of an edge. One of the better Irish reds out there and quite drinkable.
harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Apr 24, 2006 Decent aromas are prevelant here, with a somewhat herbal spiciness. Flavor it a somewhat bittersweet nuttiness, full of rich caramel malt, saltwater taffy, and toffee malts. Herbal hops, and a bitter black tea like finish. A decent take on the style, very drinkable. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 9, 2005 Amber or mahogany with a dissipating head and spotty lacing. Nutty aromas with caramel malts. Bitter aromas along with almost a hemp like smell to it. Maybe it’s just because I’m in Eugene. Flavors contain bitter hops and again, some hemp. There is a big malt presence as well with roast and caramel. Nutty, too. Tingly palate and a malty finish.
BückDich (4497), Boise, Idaho, USA Mar 9, 2005 Sampled draught at Steelhead Brewing, Eugene Mahogany color, light head & lacing. Nose of fruity red licorice & subtle roast, cinnamon & earthy notes. The flavor is nutty with a bit too much bitterness. It never lets the malts shine.
