3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at GABF. Pours a hazy dark gold with a white head. Nose is a huge punch of fresh guava. Light catty notes, Sauv blanc and then some hops in the background. On tasting, it kind of falls apart. Strong and lightly tart guava fruitiness but then iced tea. Crystal malt and tea bag. Grassy hops. Again, kind of pulls itself apart. Not bad, but meh.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at GABF 2011. Pours a deep copper color with a large white head. The nose is initially all sweet and very natural guava, some citrus hops. The flavor works great; very rich tropical fruit obviously dominated by guava, some light bitterness but not much, very smooth and natural, light toast. Great fun.

3.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
For an IPA very easy to drink. Smell was more of yeast or bread than anything else. Didn’t notice quava, but easy to drink very very light on hops for an ipa for the wimpy.

I had this on tap at Tustin Brewing’s 15th Anniversary party. What a pleasant surprise this beer was. It had a nice guava aroma, and the flavor of guava complemented the hops beautifully.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at Steelhead in Irvine, CA. Saved this one for my 250th rating! *Very* murky dark orange color with a thin white head (possibly due to the glass). Strong tropical fruit and piney hop aromas. Good guava flavor that compliments the juicy yet dry grapefruit and citrus pith hop flavor and doesn’t overpower it. The combined citrus bitterness is excellent! There’s a good, sturdy malt background that allows this to be displayed perfectly without getting in the way. Astringent dry bitterness is left behind, not so much like the usual hop bitterness, but a citrusy bitterness that’s slightly sweet. This is one of the most delicious and inventive beers I’ve had in a long time!
